About
Norwood Cafe & Takeaway sits in Norwood, Tasmania, and brings something a little different to the local fish and chip scene. Alongside traditional takeaway staples, the kitchen turns out Vietnamese-inspired dishes led by a resident Vietnamese chef, and the banh mi in particular has built a strong following across the region. Regulars describe the rolls as packed with flavour, with a crust that holds up and a soft, fresh interior. The pork banh mi draws particular praise for its crispy skin and generous filling.
The fish and chips side of things holds its own just as well. Flake, calamari, and chips are all prepared fresh to order, with the batter consistently described as crunchy and the chips cooked in clean oil and well seasoned. The menu also stretches to burgers that have impressed locals looking for a quality feed at a fair price, with thick beef patties and no filler. Menu highlights include Honey Soy Chicken Rice Paper Rolls, Teriyaki Mushroom Rice Paper Rolls, and straight-cut chips, giving both meat-eaters and vegetarians plenty to work with. Great coffee is also on offer.
Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and the venue is set up well for families with a kids’ menu and outdoor seating. The car park and entrance are wheelchair-accessible, and parking is free both on-site and on the street. It’s a solid, well-rated spot for anyone seeking fish and chips near Norwood with a few unexpected surprises on the menu.
Check opening hours below before heading in, as the kitchen is closed on Mondays.

This place reminded me of NZ fish and chips.
Ordered online and drove to collect.
Had the Vietnamese rice rolls with pork $9.
Had the pork burger and fresh seafood basket and gummy fish add on.
Everything was great! Rice rolls was thick and delicious. Pork burger bread is light and well toasted with nice succulent and sweet pulled pork.
The battered fish was fresh and you could taste the sweetness of the fish. Chips was generous too.
Good find and worth the trip to pick up.
Absolutely the BEST banh mi that I have had in Launceston. Full, packed with flavour and the roll perfectly crunchy outside soft and pillows freshness inside. Chips fresh, fresh cooking oil, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Best cheese burger I’ve had in a long time, better than dedicated burger restaurants and half the price. Nice thick beef patty with no extra mixed in fillers, perfect salad and crispy bacon. Highly recommended.
I heard about this place having a great Banh Mi, so decided to check it out. Was not disappointed. Stuffed full of delicious pork with a sumptuous crispy skin. The bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Complimented with the perfect amount of chilli and coriander (both optional).
I also got some chips, they were good too!
Ordered flake, chips, calamari. All were fresh, and battery was crunchy- yum! The fish was individually wrapped in paper towel to maintain freshness.
The store is like a traditional takeaway with made up sandwiches/rolls, milkshakes, lolly bags. Theres a few seats inside thst would make it a good inexpensive lunch.
Fantastic scrumptious food.
The Banh Mi roll was absolutely delicious.
And the people are so lovely and friendly.
Lovely crisp chips too.
10/10
Stopped in to grab something quick and easy and opted for a beef burger that was in the bain marie, being a premade-kept warm item I wasn’t expecting great things but my word was I wrong. The burger was beefy with hints of smoke and a subtle sweetness, the cheese added flavour and texture without overpowering, the other ingredients were fresh and vibrant all in a lightly toasted and soft bun. Forget your fast food chains and go here instead.
The shop itself didnt look very impressive whatsoever, to put it nicely..but the service was good and the food was very good, i had a beatifull Banh Mi with crackling amongst other things..ive never heard a bad word about the place, wich is rare for this small city.
