About
Rokeby Hart Takeaway is a no-frills fish and chip shop serving the Rokeby community in southern Tasmania. It operates as a takeaway-only venue, so there’s no table service, but the focus is squarely on the food and the experience at the counter. The shop is wheelchair-accessible with free parking out front, and cash is the way to pay, with the IGA next door handy if you need to withdraw before ordering.
The menu centres on the classics. Fish and chips are the headline act, and regulars also speak well of the potato cakes, hamburgers, and crab sticks. When the chips are on form, they come out crunchy and fresh, and the owner has a reputation for old-fashioned, friendly service that keeps people coming back rather than making the drive to the next nearest fish and chip shop in the area.
The shop holds a solid reputation across its customer base, which reflects a generally positive experience for most visitors. Pricing is reasonable for Rokeby, with meal options across the range. The shop is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly for the rest of the week when it opens for both lunch and dinner.
Phone ahead during busy dinner service to keep wait times down.

It’s your home for great takeaway food hamburger fish 🥔 cake crabsticks they close Mondays but open ever other day give them a try for your self
Although it may not look like a modern, go-to fish n chip place, it was really well priced, pretty good food and great service. Definitely worth it, over leaving the area to go to the next nearest fish n chip place!
Perfect food and lovely customer service.
There is no EFTPOS though so you need to get money out from the IGA next door if you want to pay with a card but it’s never a hassle at all.
The food was stale and cold and there were ppl behind the counter, l gave my food to my dog. I will never go back to the shop, and will not give the shop good comments.
The food was bad. How so many good reviews??? Flake was just the frozen stuff no frills sells ( yuck ) the chips were under cooked. I suppose it was cheap. But it was not good. I’d rather pay more elsewhere.
Fresh and very yummy, if you have a fish and chip craving.
Service was great, fish & chips were first class. The owner was great to chat to & let us sample her crunchy chips. We both could not fault our orders & will definitely be a returning customer. Great old fashioned service with a smile that is very hard to find these days
Not very good, chips were soggy and no salt. Burger was $21.00 for a steak burger or a normal burger with cheese, bacon and onion only. I wouldn’t recommend.
