About
Mr Beau is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Beaumaris community, and its solid four-plus-star reputation is built on something deceptively simple: well-executed classics done consistently well. The fish is the centrepiece here, cooked moist through the middle with a crunchy battered coating that regulars say is harder to achieve than it looks. Both grilled and battered options are available, giving diners a bit of flexibility without overcomplicating the menu.
The chips hold up their end of the deal too, and the shop has earned a name for itself across the broader bayside area as a reliable spot for quality, fresh food served with a friendly face. Families are well catered for, with a kids’ menu on offer and a casual, welcoming atmosphere that suits all ages. The service is consistently noted as warm and attentive, which adds to the appeal for locals making it a regular stop.
Mr Beau operates as a takeaway and delivery service, open for lunch and dinner, with free street and car park parking nearby and a wheelchair-accessible car park. Credit cards, debit cards, and tap-to-pay are all accepted, keeping things easy at the counter.
For anyone in the Beaumaris or wider bayside area looking for fish and chips done right, this one is worth checking out. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times down.

Simple dish can be very complicated, guess the secret is to stick with the basics.. Perfectly cooked moist fish with crunchy fried batter and served with a smile is so easy but so difficult to achieve nowadays. Mr Beau does it with perfection. Surely would be back😎
Best fish and chips I have ever had! the staff are all lovely, food is fresh and service is great. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the bayside area.
This is the best fish and chips shop in the bayside without a shadow of a doubt. The fish is perfectly done (either grilled or fried in batter) and the chips are yummy too. If you live near the Beaumaris, make Mr Beau your go to fish and chip shop.. I have never been disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food.
Beaumaris Concourse Fish & Chips is the kind of local spot everyone loves. The atmosphere is warm, busy, and friendly — families, friends, and locals all stopping in for their favourites.
The food is the star. The **fish & chips** are crisp and golden, with flaky fish and perfectly cooked chips — thanks to Hass, who’s known for making the best in town. The **burgers** are juicy and fresh, packed with flavour and never soggy. And the **souvlakis** are just as good: soft pita, smoky meat, and creamy sauce that make every bite delicious.
I have been coming here once a week for close to five years, never disappoints, delicious fish & chips and friendly staff, generous serves. Keep up the great work – Thank You
Great food – order by phone or in person, as *ordering online is more expensive*
Tasty fish and potato cake, but batter slightly oily
Unfortunately we ordered online without thinking about it which has a 15-20% markup that is not disclosed *despite* saying no fees (e.g. flake $14 not $11). Order directly to not pay extra unnecessarily
Fish selection very good and cooked just right. Generous portions, salad fresh, service great. Fantastic stop after a snorkel in Ricketts!
I haven’t been to Mr Beaus for a few years, and from my understanding, new owners have taken over.
It’s a shame I didn’t start doing Google reviews a few years ago, as a place like Mr Beaus would have received a full 5 stars. Out of all the fish and chips I’ve had over the years, Mr Beaus was simply unmatched. That being said, it’s still fairly good.
The flake still has that slightly buttery taste. The flavour of the fish isn’t as pronounced as it used to be, but it still has that lovely crisp batter—crispy throughout each bite. The fish itself is nice and soft. If I had to rate the flavour of the fish on its own, I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
That might sound a bit harsh, but it still earns a 4 overall because there isn’t much competition. I’ve maintained for years that it’s hard to find a fish and chip shop in Melbourne that does truly flavourful flake. In its prime, however, this would have been a full 5 out of 5. As it is now? Not bad at all. Could it be better? Sure.
The potato cake was not bad either, with a good crisp and well-seasoned. There was a fairly large air pocket inside and it was a little too greasy for my liking, but it did the job.
I received my food within 13 minutes, which is decently fast. Pricing is in line with other fish and chip shops: $11 for the flake and $1.50 for the potato cake. I’m happy to pay that, especially if the flake is decent, though closer to $9 or $10 would be better value dollar-to-performance wise.
I’ve had their chips on other occasions from my co-workers, and I can confirm they’re still top quality.
In conclusion, Mr Beaus may not be as good as it once was, but it’s still one of the better options for fish and chips in Melbourne. Check it out.
