About
Brookfield Convenience & Takeaway sits along a quiet stretch in Brookfield, Victoria, and has built a solid reputation among locals and passing travellers alike. With dine-in seating, an outdoor area, takeaway, and delivery all on offer, the shop covers the full range of options for families and individuals. Wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance make it easy for everyone to visit, and the family-friendly setup includes a kids’ menu for younger diners.
The fish and chips here have drawn genuine praise from regulars, with the potato cakes and chips noted for having a fresh, homemade quality rather than a processed flavour. The fish itself is described as soft and fresh. Beyond the classic fish and chip shop staples, the menu extends to schnitzel burgers and chicken parma, which have developed a following of their own among those who make a point of returning specifically for them.
Service is a genuine strength. Staff are attentive and welcoming, and the shop carries a warm, family atmosphere that makes first-time visitors feel at ease. It draws a mix of Ballarat-area commuters and Brookfield locals, which speaks to its reputation spreading a little further than the immediate neighbourhood.
The shop is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and accepts credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments. Phone ahead for orders during the dinner rush.

On my way to placement in Ballarat stumbled across this little milk bar.. The staff were great! They had a family atmosphere and made me feel welcome. The staff were attentive, I didn’t have to wait to be greeted they attended to me straight away. Best chips I’ve ever had in my life, I will definitely be back when in the area again. Keep up the great work guys!
I’ve always had a wonderful experience with this place; especially since the new owners bought it.
Then this evening. The take out was subpar at best. Our chicken nuggets were burnt to nearly black; the minimum chips was less than normal. Everything had a taste of old stale fryer oil.
They do offer us a free 1.25l (I imagine due to the size of our order).
This was quite a horrendous experience.
I have been going to this shop for over 10 years, they had the best chips in melton. I don’t live near the shop, but always went pass other fish’n’chip shops to get to this one. But sadly Good Friday’s oder was shocking. The potato cake was so hard I smashed it on the bench , it cracked open there was no potatoe. The fish bites were the smallest I have seen in a long time. The chips were crunchy but there was not much potatoe in the chip either
Then the prawn cutlet’s batter was undercooked. Sorry to see this happen to the shop. Won’t be going back there
Tonight we ordered some chip to go with our dinner and they were horrible. Some were still frozen, very dry and the oil tasted really old. We usually use this fish n chip shop a lot. But tonight so disappointed ☹️
Great food and great service. Always our go to
OMG! HIDDEN GEM!
Seriously the best fish n chips I’ve had in a long time! The chips and potato cakes were next level without that cheap processed taste, the fish was fresh, soft and melted in my mouth and the chicken parma was also soft and not hard or dry! This will definitely be my go to fish n chip stop from now on!
Another excellent snitzel burger and fries to die for wouldn’t go anywhere else @@!
Solid food for a good price.
That’s really all there is to it.
