About
Coburg Hill Fish and Chips is a casual, well-regarded fish and chip shop in Coburg North, serving the local community with straightforward, good-value food. The menu centres on fresh fish and chips, and regulars note the fish is consistently solid and the chips are cooked well. Beyond the classic, the shop also does chicken souvlaki, schnitzel, hamburgers, and steak sandwiches, with chicken salt available as a seasoning option for chips.
A few things set the experience here apart from the typical takeaway run. The schnitzel is notably generous in size, and the souvlaki has its own following among regulars. Prices are genuinely reasonable, with in-store pricing that can run noticeably lower than what third-party platforms display, so ordering direct is worth keeping in mind. The potato cakes have developed a mild reputation for their irregular shapes, something that seems to amuse rather than bother the locals who order them.
The shop is clean and the staff are friendly, making it a comfortable spot for families. Dine-in seating is available, including outdoor seating, and there is a kids’ menu for younger visitors. Takeaway and delivery are both on offer for those eating at home. Free parking is available on-site, and card and mobile payments are accepted.
Open Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday afternoon and evening hours as well. Phone ahead during the dinner rush if you are placing a larger order.

Totally inedible – the whiting and flathead were over cooked, dry and didn’t smell right, they were supposed to be grilled but soaked in oily crumbs, must be something not right with the oil bc the chips tasted off as well. The only edible thing was the greek salad but not worth the almost $8 for the size.
great place! cheap and good quality food. however, the potato cakes are consistently deformed, to such an extent that i cant even be mad about it
Small place. Great fish and chips.
Good food, especially the fish and souvlaki, and the service is also professional.
Today I went to the shop for the first time, I felt confused by the difference between actual shop prices (see the Menu attached) and the menu prices on Google. The shop prices were surprisingly cheaper (20-30%) than the prices presented on Google. For example, the potato cake is just $1.6 while on Google it’s $2.2. The boss told me that Google maybe put Menulog/Uber Prices onto its Menu Price.
The fish and chips here were very tasty and crisp, after first time try I would go again for the souvlaki that locals recommend as well!
We have been going here for years. Even after they changed owners they managed a decent standard for a while. Today, however was inedible. It used to be $25.50 for a large fisherman’s basket and is now $32 which id happily pay however the fish was obviously bad quality and frozen – and deep brown and overcooked. The potato cakes had real potato but are just bad. Really disappointing. Won’t be going back.
Great prices and value. The fish and chips are solid, they also do chicken salt. Also tried their chicken souvlaki which was also really good.
Staff were friendly and the shop was clean. Food was also good and the Schnitzel was huge. Will return again.
