About
Captain Kitchen Kebab & Fish is one of the highest-rated eateries in Croydon South, combining a proper fish and chip shop with a Middle Eastern kitchen that stretches well beyond the usual takeaway fare. The menu covers fresh kebabs, burgers, halal snack packs, seafood platters, salads, and family meals, all made to order. The lamb kebab with chips is the signature dish, and regulars consistently point to the generous portions of meat and the quality of the ingredients across the board.
The shop is run by a husband-and-wife team, and that personal touch shows in the service. Diners who come in expecting a standard fish and chips experience in Croydon South tend to leave pleasantly surprised by the range on offer. The mixed grill platters draw particular attention, and the seafood side of the menu holds its own alongside the kebabs and burgers. Falafel also gets strong mentions for being fresh and crispy.
The venue caters to solo diners, groups, and families, with dine-in seating available for those who want to sit and eat. Takeaway and delivery are both on offer, and reservations are accepted. All food is halal certified, which broadens the appeal considerably for the local community.
For anyone in the area looking for something a little different from a conventional fish and chip shop, this one is well worth a visit. Phone ahead during busy dinner service to keep wait times down.

Disguised as a fish n chips shop, we were nicely surprised to see that this shop does a mix of various cuisines from around middle east. We’ve tried their mixed grill platter and burger and we can 100% recommend both of them.
It’s a family run business, and they really put their heart and soul into it and it shows in the quality and flavour of the food.
We came here with a group of friends and tried a variety of dishes — HSP, lamb kebab, mixed platters — everything was absolutely delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and the portions were generous.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in, and even surprised us at the end with complimentary tea and dessert. The cake and desserts were amazing — definitely a highlight!
Great food, great service, and a warm atmosphere. Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be back!
Not your typical kebab shop!. First it has the widest selection of food I have ever seen in a kebab shop, so beside meat & chicken, there’s also a seafood menu which I delved into and wasn’t disappointed at all!. It was amazing, steaming hot, made with careful attention to every little detail. The value for money is great, you get the awesome taste plus the quantity in a really generous manner. The friendliness & the family’s kitchen atmosphere added to the experience and made it unforgettable!. Keep up the good work guys and my complements to the chef!

I ordered the Falafel from Captain Kitchen Kebab & Fish and it was absolutely delicious! Fresh, crispy, and full of flavour. The service was friendly and fast, and the food quality was excellent. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!
We were a little late to think of dinner the other night, and luckily for us Captain Kitchen was open. We hadn’t been before as we’re not super local. So glad we did.
Handmade chips and potato cakes – an absolute winner! Partner loved the lamb kebab, and the pineapple fritters were great. We’re definitely going to come back here – it’s worth the longer drive for us!
Lovely service from the team too.
Went in for lunch, starving, and asked for one of the mixed platters. Was advised that that one would take longer, try this other one, it’s similar but faster to prepare. Took the man’s advice and got the most delicious, well seasoned, flavourful mixed plate I’ve ever had. Excellent service and food, will definitely come here again!
Great service overall. While some of the food was a little bland, which may be due to the type of oil being used — traditional animal fat would improve flavour — there were still some highlights. The burgers were okay, though the dim sims could be improved by switching to the Marathon brand. Unfortunately, the pickled onions had to be discarded as they were overly soft and mushy.
On a positive note, the kebabs were excellent, with great flavour and generous portions. The lamb in particular was top quality. The shop itself has a very nice old-school interior, which adds to the experience. I would definitely return for the kebabs.
Wow!!!! First time here tonight! Incredible! Lamb kebab – absolutely on point! Real meat and lots of it! So fresh! Misso had the chicken kebab – 10/10 she said! Will be back for sure! Husband and wife team cooking are super friendly! Lovely experience all round! Can’t wait to try the HSP!
