Came here to check out the new business! Glad we did! Let me say the owner is so lovely, really down to earth! We ordered
two things to try, the calamari and chips were so great! Such generous portions aswell! Glad we stopped by can’t wait to be back to try the coffees aswell and the rest of the menu!
Literally I cannot fathom how great and delicious the food here, I’ve only tried the fish and chips and I kid you not, they have THE BEST flakes and potato cakes. It is so crispy, fresh and homemade. Out of all the fish and chips shops I’ve tried this place really took the number spot for me, the workers there was so kind and their customer service is definitely something you don’t get around often. Thank you so much for letting my partner and I try out the fried ice cream, it was truly delectable and unique!!
“I just realized that Dumfries Fish and Chips and Food Hunt are the same shop! I’ve been enjoying their delicious wagyu steak sandwich and fresh panko-crumbed fish every day.”
First time eating at Dumfries fish and chips and am already looking forward to the next time we’re there. Owner was super welcoming from the beginning offering us two free potato cakes to try out his new recipe which was delicious. All the food was really tasty and portions were great for the price. Thanks again for the great hospitality it’s refreshing to know owners like yourself still exist and am excited to enjoy your food again.
Fish and chips and made with higher quality oils, and the seafood options are all fresh and not frozen (owner received a box and the fish was absolutely fresh) resulting in a better taste profile.
Overall the fish and chips are step up from the other local stores. Service is great and would definitely come again.
Tried Dumfries Fish and Chips and was honestly impressed. I ordered the flake, chips, dim sim and a potato cake — everything was delicious. The fish was fresh with a nice crispy batter, chips were cooked well, and the dim sim + potato cake were spot on.
The shop itself felt really clean and the food tasted high quality, which you don’t always get with fish and chip spots. Service was smooth too.
Would definitely come back again 👍
I tried the Irish razor clams at Dumfries Fish and Chips and they were a brilliant surprise. You don’t always expect to find fresh razor clams at a local chippy, but these were spot on.
They were tender, slightly sweet, and had that clean, briny flavour you only get from properly fresh shellfish. No rubbery texture and not greasy either — just cooked simply and done right. The natural flavour really came through, which shows the quality of the seafood.
If you’re in Dumfries and fancy something different from the usual fish supper, I’d definitely recommend the Irish razor clams. Proper fresh seafood, well prepared, and absolutely worth ordering. Halal place
**BEWARE** If i could rate this place zero i would. This owner is extremely unprofessional, told us on the phone that he cannot cater for a pack for 2, instead he had insisted us to order a pack for 3 of which we agreed. Then once we arrived, my husband picked up in store and the owner told him he had not made the order.
Then he insisted my husband wait 5 mins for him to cook it which would again be a false as i worked previously as a fish and chip staff, an order for 3 would at least take 15 mins for it to be properly cooked. At this point i am no longer interested at this owners antics, and we declined for him to make us our order. I dont believe any of his ‘good’ reviews are real, judging from his customer service, those are all probably false too.
Save your hard earned money with the family and go elsewhere would be my wise advice.
