About
Dennington Fish and Chips sits in the small township of Dennington, just outside Warrnambool, and has built a solid following among locals and visitors alike. The menu covers the classics well, with flake, calamari, potato cakes, chips, and a battered sav on offer, alongside souvlaki and burgers that regularly draw repeat orders. Portions are known to be generous, and the fish is cooked to a crispy finish on the outside with tender flesh through the middle.
The shop is takeaway-focused and family-friendly, with a kids’ menu that makes it a practical choice for families passing through or picking up dinner after a busy day. Service is generally quick and the staff are polite, which keeps the lunchtime and evening trade moving steadily. The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday from late morning until early evening, so it suits both a midday meal and a dinner run.
Reviews in this part of the Warrnambool area are broadly positive, with many visitors pleasantly surprised by food that isn’t heavy or greasy. That said, opinions on the flake can vary, and a handful of regulars have flagged that timing between fish and chips can sometimes affect the finished result. Burgers have drawn praise from some, with the occasional note about consistency across different visits.
For anyone in Dennington or the broader Warrnambool region after a reliable fish and chip shop meal, this one is well worth checking out. See opening hours and menu details below.

We are not a family who usually ear fish n chips as we normally feel awful after all the grease but we were starving and needed food. Thankfully we were pleasantly surprised by food here. Friendly service & the food was not greasy/oily. We didn’t eat fish so cannot comment re: that. However, our fav was the chips & gravy! The gravy was delicious 😋 worth a try!
We don’t often get fish and chips as usually it ends in disappointment. But what a pleasant surprise! I wish I could say best in town,(Warrnambool area) but that would imply we tried all of them, which we have not, but I doubt you will find better value or tasting in town. Been here a few times now and has been great quality every time. It is obviously not a restaurant but better food than most pubs/restaurants etc
The bland flake (edit horrible flake) ready and wrapped well before the chips resulting in soggy batter. Took alot of vinegar and sauce to make the fish barely edible. Chips were pretty good as hadn’t been sitting. Get that timing right and wrap them all together and it will be better. Probably wont give another chance.
Chips and potato cakes were alright but not sure on the fish, only ate one piece, didn’t taste real fresh.
Great fish and chip shop, very friendly owners
Thought I’d try again with the new owners, never again 😕
After reading reviews I was skeptical but found quick service, very polite staff and huge portions! 5*
Ordered a large order over $100 which included two burger with the lot and all we got was a bun, meat patty and tiny amount of shredded lettuce. Pathetic and disappointing.
Photo is partially eaten and I added my own cheese slice.
