About
Dimboola Cafe is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in the small Wimmera town of Dimboola, drawing in locals and travellers passing through the region alike. The menu stretches well beyond the basics, covering everything from the signature fish and chips to steak sandwiches, chicken burgers, dim sims, potato cakes, and scallops. There’s also a Chinese-influenced side to the menu, with dishes like chicken fried noodles and butter fish earning real praise from regulars. It’s a broader offering than most country cafes manage.
The fish and chips themselves hold up well. Regulars describe fresh fish cooked in a light, tasty batter with a good fish-to-batter ratio, and the potato cakes come out satisfyingly crunchy. Chip serves are solid, and there are plenty of drinks and ice cream options to round out a meal. The dim sims are steamed and well received.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with outdoor seating on offer as well. The venue is family friendly with a kids’ menu, and the premises has wheelchair access to the car park, entrance, and seating. Card and mobile payments are accepted.
Service is generally friendly and not overly slow, though ringing ahead during busy periods is a sensible idea. A handful of recent visits have noted the occasional inconsistency with service and trading hours. For anyone passing through Dimboola wanting a generous, varied feed, this cafe covers a lot of ground. See opening hours below before making the trip.

Their butter fish is simply awesome. And I’ve visited this place the following day and I was told that Chinese is their special and I’ve got to admit it..it’s simply amazing! Chicken fried noodle is just amazing!
The BEST fish and chips I’ve had in a long time!!!! Friendly staff, didn’t have to wait too long for food, lots of drinks and ice cream options as well! HIGHLY recommend this place if you’re in town!!
Wonderful country Cafe offering wide range of fast food. We had their fish and Chips, Wonderful fresh fish, fresh good size scallops, delicious steam dim sims. Batter to fish ratio was very good, tasty light batter. Crunchy potato cakes, great size
Very pleased with quality of food. Every time we visit Dimboola we eat here.
I was served a steak sandwich with the end/bum of bread. I took it in and asked for a regular piece and was treated very disrespectfully, argued with- they had run out of bread apparently, other people don’t mind and ‘if I was hungry enough you’d eat it’s he said…. I’m not a fussy reviewer but give this business a miss.
Rubbish. Customer service from the older lady was horrible. Apparently asking for a large chips is ridiculous, sat outside for 40 minutes waiting for now soggy chips that are terrible. Was told our number was called. It was not. Do not recommend.
Nice stake sandwich will buy again if i come through again.
Wife said the chicken burger was great aswell
Arrived twenty minutes before it was supposed to close and on arriving found it was already shut. Keep to your your trading hour times advertised, that’s all I got to say….
Our food was good. Service with a smile.
