About
Captain Gummy’s Fish & Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Doncaster East, drawing a steady stream of families and regulars who keep coming back for the freshness and consistency. The signature dish is flake, cooked to order with a light, crispy batter that avoids the hollow, over-fried result that lets down lesser shops. Chips are fat and fluffy with portions on the generous side, and orders arrive wrapped in paper, served hot.
Beyond the classic fish and chips, the menu stretches to include homemade potato cakes, scallops, burgers, and spring rolls. The shop is known for quick cooking times without cutting corners on quality, and the staff are consistently noted for friendly service. The venue is kept spotlessly clean, which regulars appreciate as much as the food itself.
Captain Gummy’s suits a family outing well, with dine-in seating, outdoor seating, and takeaway all available, along with a kids menu and wheelchair access. Free parking makes it an easy stop for households across the Doncaster East area. Prices are reasonable for what you get, and the shop is open for both lunch and dinner.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

Been going here for years
Always fresh fish and chips and friendly service.
Prices are reasonable and the place is clean
Wow 🤩 Beautiful fish & chips, huge fish , home made potato cakes, huge scallops, great burgers , friendly staff & a spotless shop, I noticed a couple of bad comments about this shop , don’t believe it. 1 of the best fish & chip shops I’ve been to, the flake IS NOT $12 dollars. It’s $9.50 & I took a pic of the menu board !!
I’d say the comments from a jealous competitor
we’ll be back delicious yummy 👍
Bought a lamb Souvlaki that was now $18.50 great but use some quality meat. The lamb meat was chewy and tough will definitely not be going back, not like the good old days where this shop was the best fish and chip shop in Manningham.
Service is poor, they need a lot of improvement, l suppose they don’t care as its all about money for them
This is my go to fish and chip shop usually but paying nearly 4.00 for 2 potato cakes, and getting one half the size of the other at full price, very disappointing and frankly a rip off!!
Had the best ever gummy fish and chips – family pack, added scallops and spring roll, so fresh, crunchy and delicious. Don’t wait long to cook, friendly service and highly recommended!
Tried this place twice now to make sure it’s not a fluke how good it is!! Fish is fresh and batter is light and crispy – none of that hollow, over-fried junk. Chips are fat and fluffy, portions are generous and they wrap it old school style in paper. Always arrives hot and fresh. So happy to have found a new local regular! I also don’t eat dim sims, and they always swap them out for me with many potato cakes. So happy!!
Unfortunately, the hamburgers have gone from great to terrible at Captain Gummy’s in Doncaster., the last two burgers i bought had beef patties that were more breadcrumbs than beef and the mushy texture was disgusting, had to throw it away. It’s a real pity, they were the best around.
This is exactly what you expect from a fish and chips shop. Menu is good, food was good. Was reasonably priced as well.
