About
Mountain Gate Fish Bites is a takeaway and delivery fish and chip shop serving the Ferntree Gully area with decent reviews across more than a hundred visits. The shop has recently come under new management, and the fresher energy is clearly making an impression on regulars and first-timers alike.
The fish is a highlight here. The shop is known for using real gummy (flake), and the batter is consistently praised for being light and well-applied, coating generous, thick portions. Blue grenadier also features on the menu, arriving fresh and juicy according to those who order it regularly. Chips come out crispy, and the pineapple fritters have developed a loyal following, notable for their thick, generous cut. Whiting is another option that draws positive attention for its size and quality.
The venue is family friendly and suits everyone from solo lunch visitors to groups. Service is described as quick and friendly, which makes it a practical choice for a midweek fish and chips run in Ferntree Gully. There is free parking on site and the shop is wheelchair accessible. Takeaway and delivery are both available, and the menu also includes vegan and vegetarian options alongside a kids’ menu. Payment by card and mobile is accepted.
Open for lunch and dinner, with orders also taken by reservation for those planning ahead. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep wait times short.

Chips were hard and dry.
When the chips are over cooked then admit the mistake, throw them out and start over.
Instead he picked out the worst ones (at least it’s what I think he was doing) and served them anyway.
I could see they were over cooked when he took them out of the fryer. So he must of known too considering how long they were cooking for.
Seemed like a nice guy though, so I don’t know.
The worst fish and chip I’ve tried. Never again. Chips are oily and soft. Staffs are ok accept 1 male staff, might be the owner, very arrogant. Every one should avoid this store at all cost. Do not let him ruin your day.
Went there for lunch with my Mongolian friend and a khasaki friend doing training I’m start training centre.
I ordered the 3 fish deal
My whiting was double the thickness of Warrnambool port fairy and Portland.
The batter was perfect and fish was cooked perfect and fishy smell here.
The customer service was excellent courteous and friendly.

Under new management! Very fresh food. Excellent service, and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Came to try the fish and chips with my family, great fish this shop has, nice batter and good size, and best of all they use real gummy, mouthwatering, chips was crispy too, definitely come back here, highly recommended.
Love the fish so much, especially the blue grenadier fresh and juicy, quick service, also the pineapple fritters are amazing, so thick and nice, I think they use double pieces, definitely will be back more!
Very reasonably priced, burger with the lot was $12.50.
Owner was wearing a Cat in the Hat hoodie, super friendly and clear how much she cares about her customers and business.
Would recommend skipping Mcdonalds, KFC, etc and paying a visit to Fish Bites Mountain Gate.

Hamburger very salty, soggy and inedible. The roll stale and salad was old and tasted like leftover. 2 bites and enough. Hope the magpies enjoy
