About
Daily Catch is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Fitzroy North, serving up the kind of straightforward, honest food that keeps regulars coming back year after year. The shop has changed hands over time, but the quality has held firm, which says a lot. Flake and chips is the signature, and it earns that title, with the batter consistently praised for being light, crispy, and not at all greasy. The oil itself has a subtle sweetness that lifts the whole dish.
Beyond flake, the menu features calamari, snapper, potato cakes, and steamed dim sims, covering the classics without overcomplicating things. Family packs are available and reportedly generous, making this a solid pick for a group meal. The portions lean towards value, and most regulars feel they get a fair deal for their money.
Dine-in is available with outdoor seating for a relaxed, casual meal, or takeaway and delivery to nearby venues for those who prefer to eat elsewhere. The atmosphere is easy-going and family-friendly, with free street parking close by and the option to pay by card. It’s not a destination restaurant, just a neighbourhood fish and chip shop in Melbourne’s inner north that does the basics very well and has earned a solid reputation for it.

Had a snapper tonight. The batter crisp were on spot perfectly well light crunchy and not soggy. As for calamari ring batter were finally got better than before. Perfec light crunchy easy bite crisp battered you can ask for. The downside is the portion of the snapper were kinda disappointed for $11. The fish size length is about a can of drink. Taste great best crisp battered but lack of portion comparing most fish n chip I’ve been around Australia.
Shop has been there for ages. I haven’t been for a long time, but it is still as good as I remember even though there are different owners. The four of us had the family pack and there was so much food. Large piece of fish, calamari ring, crab stick, battered mussels and so many chips plus a large bottle drink all for around $60.
Mostly does takeout but there are 2 small tables which we used.
Great value and quality fish and chips, nothing super fancy here just the basics but they do it well
Great value for money & cooked to perfection. Highly recommend 💯
Light crispy batter. Fresh flake. Nice chips. Friendly service. Good value.
small potions of chips and a fish of a day for $15 is steep
The very best ! Fresh food that’s expertly cooked. The batter is always lovely and light. Our favourite fish and chip shop. We won’t go anywhere else.
Crunchy. Tender. Salted just right. These are the KPIs the consumers discuss when they chat about Fish & Chips shops. This man does it perfectly. 6 star if I could. 7 even! The oil has a light sweetness to it which induces feelings of nostalgia. There aren’t a lot of good Fish & Chips shops out there anymore, this shop gives me hope that there are still great ones out there. Thank you for a great meal. I’m glad this will be my local. See you tomorrow.
