About
Shannon Ave Fish & Chips is a takeaway fish and chip shop tucked into a strip in Geelong West, the kind of place that’s easy to drive past but well worth seeking out. The menu covers the classics: flake, calamari rings, potato cakes, fried and steamed dim sims, and a solid minimum chips for those after something simple. Steak sandwiches and grilled options sit alongside the fried fare, and there’s a kids’ menu for families.
Regulars single out the chips as a highlight, noting they come out genuinely oil-free and perfectly crisp. The fish souvlaki earns its own following, and the portion sizes have impressed visitors from interstate who weren’t expecting such generous serves. Steamed dim sims round out the kind of traditional spread that reminds people why Australian fish and chips are hard to beat.
Food quality can vary a little visit to visit, so it pays to go in with that in mind, but the shop carries a solid four-plus star reputation across a healthy number of reviews. Free street parking makes it convenient, and the shop accepts card and mobile payments so there’s no need to carry cash.
Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, with Monday the only day off. Phone ahead during the Friday dinner rush if you want to time your visit well.

Alrighty, this was another occasion where I used Google Maps to find me a Fish and Chip shop based on the location I was in, and it didn’t disappoint. Turns out I would have driven past this shop numerous times without even noticing it.
The service was impeccable and had a laugh with the guy as he packed up my order. The menu was pretty extensive with a couple of surprises on there. Prices were very reasonable.
Was here on Friday before Australia day,I’m from Queensland heading to Tazzy. Ordered the snapper at an incredible $8.80 I think it was.The size was 2 to three times the portion size you get in Queensland.Watched him layer the batter,a forgotten art.The result was, compared to Queensland and now tazmainia ,perhaps the best fish m chips I’ve eaten in decades.Top quality fish, giant sized portions, expertly cooked at a bargain price,The owner is gregarious and full of smiles. This chippy would destroy the fish and chip industry in Queensland if he decided to set up shop there
This is our local and I’ve realised we don’t visit enough. The chips were totally oil-free and perfectly crisp. I’ve never had chips that didn’t cover your fingers in grease. Like magic. Excellent fish souvlaki too
Good to be back in Australia after sometime away and have the traditional fish and chips and steamed dim sims
Best steak sandwich in Geelong without a doubt!
Ordered a couple of pieces of grilled fish. The fish had some batter on it as well as being grilled. The batter or whatever was on the fish wasn’t cooked. The fish was inedible.
Everything else was okay
Rather eat what the 15 year olds whip up at McDonalds.
Have had many snack packs from here and sometimes just my fave items: steamed dimmies with lots of vinegar and pepper. Seems it’s an unusual order, but it makes perfect sense to me, and the owner/manager who says he has his that way too 😆
