About
Hampton St Fish & Co has built a strong reputation as one of Hampton’s most-loved fish and chip shops, drawing regulars week after week with consistently fresh seafood and a menu that goes well beyond the classics. With well over four and a half stars across hundreds of reviews, it’s a genuinely well-regarded spot in the Bayside area.
The fish here is a clear drawcard. Crumbed flathead is a popular recommendation from the counter staff, arriving with a satisfying crunch and clean flavour. Calamari rings are a favourite too, cooked with care and precision. What makes this Hampton fish and chip shop a little different is the Japanese influence woven through the extended menu, including a katsu chicken burger that has earned its own following. The fish souvlaki is another highlight worth ordering. Hand-cut chips, properly crunchy, complete the picture.
The shop itself is kept spotlessly clean, with a calm, well-presented fit-out that makes it just as comfortable for a solo lunch as for a family dinner. Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery are all available, and the team behind the counter is noted for being polite, attentive, and genuinely hardworking. Wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance make it easy for everyone to visit, and street parking and a nearby car park mean getting in and out is straightforward.
For anyone searching for quality fish and chips in Hampton or across Bayside, this one is hard to look past. Check opening hours before heading in, as it does get busy during the dinner rush.

This place is a hidden gem!! The perfect fish and chip shop. The fish was genuinely the freshest I’ve ever had – so light and delicate with a perfect crispiness. The hand cut chips are divine!! You HAVE to order the fish souvlaki. Every bite was unbelievable. And the owners/staff are all so nice. It’s a pity the old reviews from previous owners of the restaurant (from 3+ years ago) bring their overall google rating down, as it would be 5 stars without them. So impressed with this place – we’ll be back!! Photos don’t do it justice.
Best fish n chips with a decedent delicious Japanese twist in Bayside. Lovely small business, extremely clean freshest fish, perfectly cooked calamari rings & fish if the day. Check out their extra menu with katsu chicken burger ! Katsu curry ! Souvlaki ! We’ll be back ! Perfect fish n chips and more 😋😋😋😋😋
The best fish and chips since moving to Melbourne 2 years ago. The chips are proper and crunchy. I ordered crumbed flathead on recommendation from the shop. Great flavour. Nice and crunchy.
I’ll be back for more.
Came here on a very busy evening. Appears to be run by a very hardworking couple. Everything was pretty decent and even the wait time was very reasonable. Purchased fish and chips, burger and some potato cakes. My one future ask is that they do their own hand cut potato cakes – I’d happily pay maybe 30% more for a hand cut vs prepackaged product. Would be great if this was possible.
Edit: in response to the owner: we came in 2 weeks ago, not on 2 Nov. I found the service was good and rated it so. My personal opinion is that the qualitative feedback is more valuable than the quant of 3 stars. Would love to try the homemade sweet potato cake
I go here every week! The food are always fresh, super tasty, and really high quality. The staff are all so polite, kind, and hardworking, and the service is wonderful. The shop itself looks really aesthetic and clean, it’s honestly such a nice place to eat. What makes this place different from other fish and chips shops is how much effort they put into everything. Their special menu has really cool Japanese-style dishes and flavours, which are so good and super unique, you don’t find that anywhere else! The prices are really reasonable too, especially for the quality you get. It’s also perfect for families with kids because they have cute colouring activities and fun little “find the object” games on this cute painiting. Everything about this place just feels thoughtful and well cared for. Definitely my favorite fish and chips shop!
We came by for the some takeaway and happened to arrive after a large group put in 10+ separate orders. Additionally, we noticed a sign that one of the owners/chefs is off work at the moment.
We did not have to wait particularly long but the staff were apologetic even though it was very understandable why things might have been a bit slower than normal.
The food was delicious! Light, crisp batter on the fish, perfect chippery chips and really loved the katsu curry (the curry sauce is also great to dip the chips in!). We’ll be back for more very soon 🐟🍛🍤
So pleased we chose to eat here, family of six looking to have quality fish and chips, and we were not disappointed. The very best service, they were very polite and considerate to our needs and definitely not expensive. Best battered fish we’ve had for quite a while and the chips were delicious.
I have to be honest: I went in planning to have a classic katsu curry, but my attention was caught by the Sauce Katsu Burger. It’s the best and most well-balanced “chicken burger” I’ve ever had. Compliments!
