About
Salt ‘N’ Vinegar Fish Chips is a casual fish and chip shop in Keilor Park, Victoria, serving the local community for both lunch and dinner. The shop offers dine-in and takeaway, making it easy to grab a quick meal on the way home or sit down for a proper feed. Parking is straightforward, with a wheelchair-accessible car park and free street parking nearby.
The cooking is where this place earns its reputation. Regulars consistently note that chips come out with a satisfying crunch, not soggy or heavy with oil, and that battered fish is fried to perfection inside and out. The menu keeps things classic, which is exactly what the locals appreciate. There are no gimmicks here, just well-executed fish and chips done the traditional way. The steak sandwich also draws the odd mention, described as a good old-fashioned affair on toasted white bread.
Prices are considered reasonable for the area, and the overall quality holds up across multiple visits. Note that the shop operates on a cash-only basis, so it pays to come prepared. At a solid four-plus stars across nearly 60 reviews, it punches above its weight for a strip-mall fish and chip shop in Melbourne’s north-west.

Cash only – However, fish and chips were fried to perfection. Perfect inside and out. I however, recommend ordering takeaway as there was particularly noisy experience with a old woman complaining about Souvlaki’s (which my greek father has given his highest honour for)
Owners are great people. Never too busy to welcome you and wave you goodbye.
Walked into this place, was very dirty inside, years of dust and oils, made the whole place yellow. The lady started yelling at the guy on the grill because she burnt her finger, she ranted on for about 5 minutes. The food was not good, potato cakes were OK, but the potato inside was extremely thin, hamburger was not nice at all, and the chips were below average.
I was very disappointed tonight, our potato cakes were so tiny, when I rang them to let them know, they didn’t care, told me to go to another Fish & Chip shop, bad customerservice. Also the size of the minimum chips is so minimal now, so disappointing considering they put the prices up.
Second review a month later.
I suggest you change supplier of your potato cakes, so they are bigger & keep your customers happy, as it is about customers being happy in a business. Also there is no need to be rude to customers no matter how busy you are.
My friend ordered a minimum of chips tonight to try you guys again & see if there was any change, the size was a joke, even smaller than a month ago. Airportwest Fish & Chip shop charge $5 for a minimum of chips & the size is alot bigger, again if the cost of a box of chips has gone up for you, then find a new supplier, there is obviously cheaper out there if other Fish & Chips are generous with there serving size.
Ordered the steak sandwich here today, good old fashioned steak sanga almost with the lot, between two white sliced toasted breads. Despite the amenity of this place, the steak was easy to eat, only a little gristle, which i expect is standard for the old corner fish and chip shop, but very tasty with all fresh salad items and especially when i added the tomato sauce and mayo. Soooo cheap too, $11. Will be back.
My husband and I have just moved into the area. He stopped for some dinner after a haircut in the same strip of shops.
Chips were perfection! Not soggy or too oily, perfect crunch. The rest of our food was tasty too. We found the prices to be quite reasonable. We look forward to coming back again soon
This place is great – everything I’ve ordered is always perfectly cooked! Great prices, a classic fish and chip shop no funny business
Chicken burger was overcooked and tasted burnt. The schitinel was not good quality. A fabricated patty in the worst way.
Chips were nice and crunchy though.
Quite lovely food, reasonably priced.
