About
Gully Fish & Grill is a casual fish and chip shop serving the Knoxfield area for lunch and dinner, with takeaway, delivery, and no-contact delivery all available. Free on-site parking and a wheelchair-accessible car park make it easy to visit, and the shop is halal-certified with a kids’ menu to cater for the whole family.
The menu goes well beyond the standard fish and chips spread. Regulars have long praised the fish and chips here as some of the best in the area, and the potato cakes draw particular attention, known for being creamy and generously portioned. South Melbourne dim sims make an appearance too, a detail that keeps traditional chip-shop fans happy. The souvlaki is another strong point, with both chicken and lamb options seasoned well and prepared in the traditional style. The HSP is also well regarded, built with quality meat and chips that hit the mark.
Knoxfield locals who have been coming here for years speak warmly of the friendly, professional staff and consistently accurate orders. That kind of reliability is what keeps a neighbourhood shop busy across generations. Accepting credit, debit, and NFC mobile payments adds to the everyday convenience.
Decent reviews across a solid number of visitors suggest the kitchen delivers on most visits. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep wait times short.

When was the last time you got bonus potato cakes? Ordered 3 got 5… And they were some of the creamiest potato cakes I’ve ever had. Fish was tops and South Melbourne dimmies were a bonus. Only thing stopping a 5 star review was the chips, they were just OK.
Food was good and bad. Fish delicious, no issue. The chips were pretty tasteless and stale. Salad was good but was floating in a pile of liquid. Service was friendly all though having EFTPOS is a must for any business. The price was very fair 🙂
Potato cakes and chips are awful. Cooked in old oil. Potato cakes are that soggy that they flip flop around when you pick them up and they have a slimy texture to them. Not worth the $17 that they charged. Couldn’t stomach them. Never again.
Look at this rippa of a hsp. It tastes as good as it looks. Meat is sublime, melted in my mouth. Chips were salted well, one of the best hsps I’ve had. Honestly very exquisite and i highly recommend! I will be coming back.
Beetroot salad is nothing more than just plain beetroot in a container. Not as described on website.or pictures at all. Very disappointing.
First picture is off website advertising item. Next pictures are of item recieved. Very sad.
Had been going here for years, food is generally good but the atmosphere is uncomfortable to say the least. Owner is constantly hiring young staff to assist on busy nights and almost every time we visit someone new is being trained. That in itself is no problem at all, what does become a problem is orders are constantly misunderstood and instead of taking the time to educate the staff the owner becomes inpatient with them and berates them in front of everyone. I have seen first hand a mother walk in and tear shreds off the owner for how her son was treated and on another occasion i have witnessed him bearate a young boy taking a phone order infront of a full shop as he wasn’t fully accustomed with the menu yet. Well on this particular occasion another young staff member has been hired and though the order was repeated multiple times and one of the full time staff was assisting the order was taken incorrectly. When i managed to stop the staff member with continuing further with the order, the owner jumped in and yelled at me proclaiming. “you don’t tell her it’s wrong, it’s correct on the ticket you have a go at her” and pointed at the young worker. I was flabbergasted, immediately asked for a refund, gave the owner a full blast about how he speaks to his younger employees and told the young girl not to let him get to her as no doubt he would have a go at her when we left the shop and guess what? Walking back to the car that’s exactly what he did.
Poor girl. If you are reading this young lady i am so very sorry for making your night difficult by pointing out how he acts and i really hope he didn’t upset you too much after we left the shop the way he was speaking to you.
Avoid this business like the plague, everyone, plenty of other businesses that could use the money in these times and treat their workers with respect.
We just moved to this area and this is our first time ordering here. Good to see that they did traditional gyros, not many places with those anymore. We ordered a chicken and a lamb souvlaki and it was amazing. Seasoned really well and large portions. Best souvlaki we’ve had in a long while. Will be back to try out more of their menu.
We have been going here for decades and love the fish and chips. Definitely the best in the area.
I find the staff friendly and professional, and over the years my orders have always been correct. My son worked here as his first job and it was a great introduction to the workforce, I was grateful to John for looking after my boy and guiding him in a positive direction.
I work in Knoxfield and there are a decent proportion of the staff at our place who go there for lunch, they love the flake souvlaki.
