Great food and a friendly owner, I really love the burgers and will definitely be back for more. The owner has been doing his best and I don’t see anything wrong with his efforts. This is a great place to grab a meal!
I tried the gluten free option today. I had fried flake with minimum chips, potato cakes and pineapple fritter. The serving size is very generous and the food was really lovely. The batter is light and crispy.
The fish was as long as my dinner plate and the potato cakes are huge. I have a lot leftover for tomorrow. I’m so grateful Bladin St Fish and Chips has added the gluten free fryer and I hope they are well supported by the gf community. The staff are lovely, too!
Worse fish and chips ever!
Today we went here because we heard good things about there gluten free menu, we ordered two separate meals
Order took around 20 mins which is fine when I grabbed the packages the gf one had oil running out of the bag as if it was a bottle of oil, my jumper completely covered, we opened the package to see the food black and I mean dark brown over cooked and dripping with oil, basically looks like the just pulled it straight from the oil into the box, photo attached of the colour of the food, other wise was I ordered a corn jack when she gave it to me in a bag it was cold and not even cooked they just bagged it straight from the fridge
I will never be going back to this place, worse food I have ever seen and tasted and the fact they couldn’t even cook the food right.
Amazing gluten free options. Very fair pricing. Never left waiting longer than the predicted order time. Lovely staff.
I ordered 4 fish and large chips and told the lady its 3 adults and 3 children, she suggested 4 fish to cut into fish bites. It was a wise idea as everyone had a piece of fish to eat👍💜🤩😋
I asked for the lunch pack, a pack for 1. The potato cakes were so thin and for some reason not cooked through. The potato cakes and fish were so greasy it was sickly with oil. And the chips was enough for a family of 4. Had to throw them away. Not enjoyable at all, it has definitely gone down hill from the previous visits. (Used to be so nice, oil didn’t look clean either).
Don’t think lll be going back. Very disappointing.
Great place been here multiple times food is always great. Staff is nice, Owner is Wonderfully polite. Gluten free options. And offers a student discount!
I really wanted to love this place, especially given the availability of both gluten-free and standard options, but unfortunately, the meal was a major letdown.
The Good:
The Fish: This was the highlight of the meal. Both the GF and non-GF fish were lovely, fresh, and well-cooked.
The Disappointing:
The Texture: Both the GF and non-GF fish chips and other items were incredibly oily and soggy. It felt like they hadn’t been drained properly at all.
The Sides: The potato cakes were a struggle—soggy on the outside while remaining hard and undercooked on the inside.
Lack of Substance: Both the calamari and the potato cakes felt like they were almost entirely batter with very little actual substance inside.
Cold Centers: Both the South Melbourne and GF dim sims were still cold in the middle when served.
While the fish itself was great, the rest of the meal lacked the quality and care you’d expect. Between the excess oil and the undercooked sides, we won’t be returning.
