About
Sam’s Fish & Chips in Mooroolbark has built a solid reputation among locals for delivering the kind of classic, no-fuss fish and chips that feel genuinely nostalgic. The batter is crisp, the chips are cooked to that ideal balance of crunchy outside and fluffy inside, and the food arrives quickly. Regulars note the staff are friendly and the shop is kept spotlessly clean, which goes a long way in a busy takeaway environment.
The menu covers the familiar favourites. Potato cakes and dim sims are popular additions to an order, and a steak sandwich rounds out the classic Australian fish-and-chip shop experience nicely. The couple pack and lunch pack options make it easy to order for two without overthinking it. Pricing is considered reasonable for the portion sizes on offer.
Sam’s caters well to families, with a kids’ menu available and plenty of parking nearby. Takeaway and delivery are both on offer, so it works just as well for a night in as it does for a quick pickup. Wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance are also available, making the shop accessible to a wide range of visitors.
For anyone in the Mooroolbark area looking for a reliable local fish and chip shop, Sam’s is worth keeping on the list. Phone ahead during busy dinner periods to keep the wait short.

Definitely the best Fish & Chips around 😋 .Had the couple pack. Cooked in Frytol or Animal fat (Canola Free ) Chips crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Perfect. Fish in batter also cooked to perfection 🥰. Drinks were a good price. It all went down really well with a 0% beer. 8 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 from me.👍
Very disappointing. Fish was tough, dry and tasteless. Asked for crumbed, cooked on hotplate drizzled with oil. Greasy and NO CRUNCH. I get crumbed for crunch! Certainly won’t be back. This joint used to be brilliant. Not now! Terrible – and not cheap.
This is how you remember fish and chips tasting when you were a kid.
Friendly staff, awesome food that isn’t expensive or greasy. When they say it’ll be ready in ten it really will really be ready in 10.
Spotlessly clean.
Loads of parking right at the door with a designated disabled parking space right there too.
Mooroolbark’s best kept secret.
Go there. You will be full and happy.
Old school fish and chips. Steak sanga was basic and delicious. Potato cakes and dim sims delicious also!
My new go-to
Horrible meal tonight. Fish so tough you couldn’t eat it. Definitely not flake as ordered. How can you get burnt raw potato cakes? Chips only thing edible but all very greasy. Have been coming here for years but no longer.
Chips were really well cooked, absolutely perfect.
Potato cake was the only letdown in the lunch pack. Rubbery and burnt tasting.
Not sure if asking if they do HSP’s deserves a condescending teenager giving me attitude? considering half the menu is gyro meat it only makes sense you’d think
The teenage girl taking calls tonight could benefit from some training in phone manner and how to speak to customers.
The attitude and rude tone when enquiring about an item for our order was so unacceptable. Cancelled order and won’t bother going back.
Horrible service.
