About
Ocean Bay Fish and Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Mornington, Victoria, known for generous portions and a menu that goes well beyond the basics. The battered flake is the shop’s signature, and the pieces are notably large, a detail that regulars mention repeatedly. Potato cakes are another firm favourite, and the grilled fish options, including crumbed whiting, draw solid praise for being cooked to order and arriving hot.
The menu extends into territory you might not expect, with chicken souvlaki and beef croquettes sitting alongside the classic barramundi and chips. For those who prefer something lighter, the grilled fish is a popular alternative to the battered range. Chips come in generous serves and are consistently noted as good value for the Mornington area.
Service is a clear strength. Even on busy Friday nights, orders are typically ready within eight to ten minutes, and the staff are known for being friendly and welcoming. The shop is family-friendly with a kids’ menu, and there is wheelchair-accessible parking and free parking on site, making it an easy stop for all ages. Takeaway only, so no dine-in seating is available.
Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep your wait to a minimum.

First time here tonight, staff super friendly, food cooked fresh and hot and for a Friday night didn’t have to wait long at all. Decent size fish and generous portion of chips very good value , I will be back, thank you
I love this fish and chip shop. Before turning vegan this was the only fish and chip shop we would buy fish from…even travelling from Rosebud was no issue when we knew the quality was so good! Now it’s more of a chips and potato cake order but still always cooked and seasoned well 😋
I ordered food for two , one pieces of flake battered fry and crumbed grill whiting and chips with tartare sauce.
The fish was real local gummy coated in a delicious, crispy batter and was cooked to perfection, as were the good size king George whiting crumbed I was particularly impressed with the accompanying tangy tartare sauce, that I believe was home-made. The fish very fresh The chips were crunchy on the outside with a soft, fluffy interior.
I live nearly half an hour away, but I will not hesitate to drive to Mornington again for these fish and chips.
Very very Highly recommend!!
Asked for fish to be grilled and I got batter that I did not want which rendered the fish tasteless. The chips were horrible- the yellow oil soaked in ( I assume because the oil was not hot enough) and formed a thick outer skin the chip was not crisp but soggy
The patato cakes were burnt, also they’re factory made rubbish.
Calamari rings $1.80 each and look, feel and taste like frozen supermarket type.
The flake was inedible, frozen, pre battered and almost like a fish cake consistency – it was tasteless, sticky and outright awful. We binned it.
What’s funny is when this shop opened they ruined the original one a few doors down and now they are one of the worst themselves.
Morningtons food has been getting worse over the last 5 years and these guys are the same.
Great fish & chips, the biggest pices of flake you will ever get and always quick turnaround, never more than 10min even when busy.
Ordered grilled flathead tails plus chips only to find fish had been cooked in thick coating of breadcrumbs which tasted terrible. When I asked why it was in breadcrumbs, didn’t get any answer that I couldn’t comprehend . Definitely won’t be returning
Terrible-0rdered whiting – still had spine and bones-potato cakes no potato just batter and not store made- fish bites for the kids over cooked and tasted very greasy
2 family members unwell during the night. First time and last time for this place. Avoid. Spent over$120.00
