About
Pakenham Racecourse Fish & Chips is a casual takeaway spot in Pakenham with a menu built around fresh fish, including flake, snapper, whiting, barramundi, blue grenadier, and barra grill. The range gives fish lovers plenty to choose from, and the venue has built up a following over time among locals who appreciate the variety on offer.
The fish itself draws consistent praise, with regulars noting it has historically been a highlight of the experience. Potato cakes also get a mention as a solid addition to any order. Service has been friendly and knowledgeable on good visits, with some regulars reporting strong results over many return trips to this Pakenham fish and chip shop.
It is worth noting that recent visits from some regulars have been more mixed, particularly around chip quality and consistency. The shop is best approached on a fresh run rather than a quiet period, and it may pay to phone ahead during busy meal times.

Been going here for some 18 months and until recently would have given five stars. But my last two visits have been disappointing. — fantastic fish but very poor chips. They had either been overcooked, or heated up from a previous cooking. Because the shop is just around the corner I’ll give them one more go, but that’s all.
The man who served me looked so unhappy and as thou he didn’t want to be there.
I went there last year and both the fish and chips were really good. Not sure if it’s changed hands. I ordered the same thing today, it was $2.20 dearer and the chips were much less and not nice, the fish was ok. I know, inflation, but to pay that much more and to get less and poorer quality, won’t be going back there.
I haven’t been here before and thought I’d give it a try, I gotta say I was glad I did. First of all the young man who served me was polite and very friendly and I’ll tell you what he knows his way around that grill. Probably the best burger with the lot I’ve had in a long time, juicy, fresh and he even asked if I would like my egg cooked all the way through or a little runny, I got a little runny and it was on point. The flake was amazing and the dim sims, potato cakes and chips were all crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside. 5 well earned stars and I will 100% be back here from now on. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I was so disappointed. It was me and my mothers first time there and that will be our last. We walked in and they seemed like nice people and they were. We ordered a lunch pack and a sausage and 3 drinks and it all came out to around 36 ish dollars. We got our food and the portion looked very small but we though nothing of it and went to eat with my family. We opened it up and was shocked. The lunch pack was supposed to come with two fish but we got one. And there was about 20 chips in there. We were disappointed to say the least. I wouldn’t recommend!
What joke this place is now. $10 of just chips lucky to feed 2 people. The box wasn’t even full to the sides or top.
This is not $7.00 of chips it only covered the bottom of the box
Fish and potato cake was nice, chips were OK, but no salt when specifically asked for. None of the drinks in the fridge were cold either. Very disappointed.
Would not Recommend .
