About
Deep Blue Sea Fish n Chips & Chicken Bar is a well-regarded fish and chip shop tucked inside a petrol station on a St Albans strip, run by a warm and welcoming couple who have clearly won over the local community. The shop carries a solid four-plus star reputation across its reviews, and it’s easy to see why regulars keep coming back.
The food is the main draw. Batter comes out genuinely crispy and the chips arrive without that heavy, oily feel that can let takeaway down. Deliveries arriving a solid ten minutes away still land crunchy, which says something about how the food is prepared. Potato cakes are a favourite, and the owners have been known to toss in a few extra for good measure. The fried chicken also gets a strong word around the western suburbs, with locals rating it among the best in the area.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and delivery is an option for those who’d rather eat at home. The shop is family friendly, making it a comfortable stop for parents with kids in tow. Free street parking makes a visit easy, and the counter accepts credit cards, debit cards, and tap-to-pay. It’s a busy spot, so expect a short wait during peak times.
For anyone in the St Albans area after honest, well-priced fish and chips with a side of genuine hospitality, this one is worth knowing about. Phone ahead for orders during the dinner rush.

Takeaway to my house about 10 mins drive and once it arrives the food is still so crunchy!!! Not oily at all. Small tuck away shop at a petrol station run by the loveliest couple. She shoved extra potato cakes for me!! To be honest with the pricing the portion is huge so great bargain! Definitely will continue to support!
My wife, kids and I visited yesterday after seeing this place in social media and I’m glad we went. As the other reviews state, very friendly older couple running this business. Fresh fish n chips at a good price for what has become an expensive takeaway option at other locations. Awesome crispy chips with creamy potato filling, hand cut potato cakes, cheap milk shakes, fried chicken is very nice also. Would highly recommend.
I discovered this spot through DoorDash, and I’m so glad I did! The food looks amazing, tastes super crunchy, and the place is always busy—which says a lot about how much people love it. If you’re craving fried food, this is definitely the place to go. They’re open late, and the lady who runs it is absolutely adorable. Bon appétit! Thank youn❤️
If you’re a St Albans local, you know this is the place to go for fried fish and more importantly THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN in the west! This place is a GEM amongst locals 🩷 Owned and operated by a lovely family as well!
Ordered a dinner pack over the phone and order was ready for pickup within 10 minutes. Food was everything you would want from a fish & chip shop and affordable. Shop is run very efficiently by a friendly couple. Definitely recommend this store.
The fried chicken is sooo good from here – hot, fresh and somehow still crispy even after a 30 min drive.
The owners are so lovely and you can tell they do their best to keep their customers happy.
Best fish and chips shop in melbourne . Me & my friends were surpised & delighted as we very hungry! And then Wow! Such fair prices and OMG extreemly delicious and traditional style fish & chips, and wait, whats this?! -The portions! -they were generous and substantial;which is a shocking delight in this city!
AND++ to round of the experience we found the staff to be so extremely friendly and genuine. No dishonestly here!!
So you listen to me!- if you want some authentic fish& chips at real prices dont you miss out!!
I saw a few social media posts about this place and came in thinking it would be more of a good-value, local, family-run spot. For me, the value wasn’t quite there across everything.
The mini dim sims were the biggest letdown. They were very small and had hardly any meat inside, which wasn’t good at all. The regular South Melbourne–style dim sim, on the other hand, was pretty solid and much better.
The fried chicken had clearly been sitting in the warming drawer for a while. It wasn’t juicy, but it also wasn’t overly dry. Still decent, just nothing to rave about. I agree with others that it’s basically an Asian-style version of KFC, but I wouldn’t say it’s better than KFC. It’s just different.
The potato cakes were interesting. Once you got through the thick batter, the potato itself was actually very good. They also threw in a few extra potato cakes, which was a nice, generous touch, like an old-school fish and chip shop. The chips were also quite decent, especially for the price, and good value if you’re just after minimum chips.
Overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back just for this, but it’s probably one of the better local options in the area. Good for locals, not really a destination spot for me.
