About
Watervale Fish & Chips in Taylors Hill has built a solid reputation among locals in the area, with well over 160 reviews and a consistent record for quality takeaway. The shop runs a casual, no-fuss operation that works well for families, with a kids’ menu available and free parking on site and along the street. Takeaway and delivery are both on offer, making it easy to enjoy a good feed at home without much effort.
The menu covers the classics done well. Flake is a popular choice, and the blue grenadier draws regulars who want a mild, satisfying fish without strong flavour. Chips are frequently praised for their quality, but the real talking point at this Taylors Hill fish and chip shop is the potato cake. Priced at just $1.50 each, they arrive crispy and hot, and more than one regular has declared them among the best they have tried. The chicken schnitzel burger also gets a mention for being a proper, filling effort that takes two hands to manage.
Orders placed through delivery apps have impressed first-timers who were not sure what to expect. Flake, chips, and potato cakes arriving perfectly cooked via Uber Eats is a solid sign that the kitchen keeps its standards up even when the food travels. The shop accepts credit cards, debit and NFC mobile payments, and the car park is wheelchair accessible.

Probably one of the worst fish and chips I’ve had. Fish is dry, batter is floury, overcooked and inconsistent. Can tell they have not changed their oil. Will not be going back.
Only reason why not a 1 star as I haven’t had food poisoning.
try this place a few months back when nothing was really open and this is the only option, its was bad so i let it go. then a few weeks or so came again to give it another shot because again this was the only options and othe junk food around the area.
just as bad as last time. the chips is disgusting , soggy and the fish is slimy and soggy, meaning its not battered properly .
dont know what to say to the owner … just go around and try other place… and u will see your fish and chips is really bad.
Periodically, when I’ve been around that area I have called into watervale fish and chips in Taylor’s hill and ordered a couple of times.
Honestly it’s a bit of a hit and miss with some of their items.
The fish (flake) is always a nice generous size, however personally I find the batter on the fish to be not as light and airy as other batters and occasionally the fish has been a little dry.
The potato cakes are quite nice, however once again the batter can be quite heavy making you miss out on that soft sliced potato in the middle.
The chips are a little pale in colour at times and can taste a little bit dry. They don’t really give you the tasty pop of potato in your mouth like chips should.
I’m thinking it could potentially come down to just using different oil or maybe the chips just taste a little better towards the end of the day as the oil is nice and hot.
The crab sticks are quite thick, but once again the batter can make it taste kind of battery.
The fried calamari is on point, probably some of the best calamari I’ve eaten from a fish and chips shop.
The prices are very well priced and you do get a lot for your value.
The customer service is always on point and very friendly.
Over all it’s not a bad fish and chip shop, it’s just the batter and chippies that lets it down for me.
In saying that, if you love a heavy batter on your fish and chips then absolutely give it a go..
Went in to check out their potato cakes (I consider myself somewhat of a PC aficionado)
I ordered 4 and was pleasantly surprised to find they were a mere $1.50 each. When I got them home, they were still steaming hot and lovely and crispy. They had given me 7, instead of 4 – possibly because a couple of them were on the smaller side. Winning! They were absolutely delicious – lovely and soft in the middle with an excellent potato flavour – fantastic crunchy batter on the outside – I’m very happy!!
Overall terrible.
Ordered fish bites, got home to eat and realised they had given me something completely different that looked absolutely disgusting.
Chips were not seasoned and tasted bland.
Disappointed as this had not been my prior experience here, last time during a busy period so would expect with them not being busy I would have the same if not better experience. Overall a waste of money as I couldn’t eat it and had to go out again to get something else for dinner.
Tried to call more than once to sort the issue out and no answer. The store wasn’t busy with many staff on, not sure why my calls were ignored.
Picture of whatever this was that wasn’t fish bites…
Great fish and chips, the food is great, their chicken snitz burger is a definite 2 handed ordeal, it’s filling and delicious, always a regular, the potato cakes are perfect and crispy
Wonderful fish and chip place!
If you’re after a succulent neutral but tasty fish option definitely choose blue grenadier. Chips are some of the nicest I’ve tried here, but a silent star is the potato cake. You know a place is good when they can make a side dish like it’s a main character.
Had a Uber order first time l have had fish and chips from Watervale didn’t know what to expect the food was fantastic, flake, potato cakes, chips, perfectly cooked was really blown away how good it was.
Great job guys will definitely order again.
