Google would only let me write a certain amount of characters, so I’ll keep it short and simple. I wanted to go into detail so it didn’t look like I was “bashing” Kippers fish and chips. Please don’t take this review the wrong way, as it’s not my intention. I will keep it short and simple.
There were enough workers on, it wasn’t busy, most of the workers were waiting for something to do. So there’s no excuse there. Though I think the ball has been dropped this time, as based on the reviews, this must be an uncommon trend – I just got unlucky.
Staff were lovely, so I can’t fault them on their customer service.
1. Chips needed a little bit more chicken salt, and cooked for slightly longer. Without chicken salt, or not enough, they are just fried potato, who wants that?
2. Onion rings were gross, soggy and undercooked.
3. Calamari rings… WHAT? That’s not calamari. I’d pay extra for REAL calamari. I know $1 is $1, but………………. GROSS.
4. Steak in the steak sandwich wasn’t cooked, fat not rendered, no seasoning on the meat (salt and pepper, perhaps?). Overall very disappointed, just picked it apart and ate the insides as best I could. Bread was also very, very lightly toasted, as in was partly soft still. Maybe toast it a little more?
5. Flake was okay, batter not so nice. Flake was dry, though it wasn’t cooked for long clearly, so not sure how that has happened? It also didn’t taste like any other flake I’ve had, a bit on the blander side. It was a HUGE flake though.
6. Hotdog in batter was on the higher end of the scale compared to other places, so can’t really complain there good job on that.
7. Mars bar in batter was absolutely disgusting – there was no batter on the bottom of it, it was soft, undercooked and had absorbed all of the oil. When I held the bag containing the mars bar, I thought someone had put sauce in a bag, it felt like mush, but below and behold, it was a soggy piece of chocolate and oil. I still ate it though, and it was actually the first thing I ate.. Whoops. A mars bar is a mars bar, it disappeared in no more than two bites.
Overall, very bad experience. I can only assume it is a once-off, as the reviews for this place are glowing. I’ve just been unfortunate enough to get the crap end of the stick, this time.
Maybe next time will be better (if there is a next time, though I am doubtful).
Popular Place. Very good fish and Chips. Reasonably Clean and Tidy. Good service. Prices were not too bad either. Centrally located along the main street of Werribee.
I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t discovered Kippers Seafood sooner, because it seems like everyone in Werribee was there the night I went! It was very busy, which says a lot—clearly people are voting with their feet. The service was excellent, and I didn’t have to wait long for my order. The food was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable too. I think I’ve just found my new go-to fish and chip spot for when I feel like a treat.
Tried Kippers for the first time after seeing it on TikTok, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We ordered the large fish basket ($30) and small fish basket ($15)—both reasonably priced.
The fish was fresh, delicious, and impressively large, with a generous serve of perfectly fried chips. Scallops were fresh and tasty, and while the calamari and prawns were standard in size, they were still delicious.
Overall, a great first experience—some of the best chips we’ve had, and we’ll definitely be returning.
This fish and chips was surprisingly good. I usually go to Seabrook, but this was my first time trying this place and it did not disappoint. The chips were great, the fish batter was spot-on, and I really enjoyed the prawns and scallop as well. This is easily in my top three fish and chip shops on the west side, right up there with Seabrook.
Just go and order there. Just do it. All these people are doing it, you deserve it too.😂

First thought:
First time there today. They’ve been right there on Watton St for years and years and years, but fir some reason I never went inside! Guess I’d just never been in the fish n chips mood while around there! My loss!!!! And my family’s loss!!
/Food/
Not many words are needed here. It’s absolute delicious world. Just go!!!!!! JUST DO IT
(The only non-plus for me: calamari ring is the minced-and-reformed type.)
/Service/
Service is the quick, polite and/but no-nonsense type.
I.e. you will walk in, you will be greeted, you will place your order, you will pay a very good price, eye contact may or may not be made, probably no smiles will be exchanged, you will wait and watch many more people come in and get their food, someone will holler out your number, probably twice, you go up and you enter absolute delicious world. You are so full and a bit greased-out but it’s just so yum. You go there next time your brain says “fish and chips”. Rinse and repeat. The end.)
Tried Kippers Seafood for the first time last night and was impressed straight away. The line was out the door on a Thursday evening, which felt like a good sign. Despite being extremely busy, the staff were efficient, friendly, and clearly on top of things. The food quality was excellent and the pricing very reasonable. I’ll definitely be back.
Give this fish and chip place a wide berth! Owners are rude and condescending after we asked if the potato cakes were real potatoes or just the powdered type you sometimes get. A valid question considering the price you pay here! Despite being ‘real’ potatoes, the food was still below par and the arrogance and rudeness of the owners added to the distasteful displeasure we experienced. Expensive for what you get, better eateries in the area, spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
