About
Kookaburra Ave Fish & Chips is a popular food van serving Werribee locals from its spot on Kookaburra Avenue. Don’t let the format fool you, this compact setup turns out fish and chips that have earned a strong reputation across Melbourne’s west, with a rating well over four and a half stars from a substantial number of visitors.
Flake is the signature here, and it draws people back repeatedly. The batter is well regarded, and the chips are made from real potatoes rather than pre-processed food service stock, which makes a noticeable difference in flavour and texture. The burgers also deserve a mention. Regulars rave about them, with the burger with the lot and the schnitzel burger both getting a strong following. For a suburban fish and chip shop, the burger game is genuinely impressive.
The staff are known for being friendly and efficient, keeping wait times short even during busy periods. Nicole in particular has been noted for making customers feel welcome. A kids’ menu is available, making this a practical choice for families. The van is wheelchair-accessible, and free parking is on hand nearby.
Takeaway is the name of the game here, with plenty of people grabbing their order and settling in nearby. For anyone in the Werribee area searching for a fish and chip shop worth the trip from a few suburbs over, Kookaburra Ave is a solid answer. Phone ahead during the dinner rush.

Probably the best fish and chip shop burgers I’ve ever tried. I’ve been to so many closer to home but they cannot compare to kookaburra ave’s burgers! I always get either the burger with the lot or the schnitzel burger! They also come in packs for $12! You get a serve of chips & a drink! Awesome deal and worth every dollar & the drive! Me and my family don’t get burgers from any other fish and chip shop now.
Absolutely delicious fish and chips—especially for the price! The quality and flavour were outstanding. Nicole was so lovely to chat with and made sure I had a great experience. Highly recommend stopping by this food van on Kookaburra Ave!
Flake was very good! No sitting area but fun experience eating in the car.
I was happy to find this little fish n chips shop. Fish was really good and batter clean and fresh. Will return
This would have to be one of the best fish and chip shops I’ve been too. My 2 sons refused to eat battered fish since day one. Now in their 20s I convinced them to try Kookaburra’s, as one them said, “if you told me 2 weeks ago I’d be eating battered fish and wanting more I would’ve said you’re mad. You need to give it a go.
A great suburban chip shop and unlike some other stores they use real potato’s rather than the pre-made food service versions. The only suggestion would be the store signage could be a little clearer, I drove past the place a couple of times before I realised it was there.
Moved to Hoppers a few months ago, been looking for a decent fish and chip shop. Low and behold Kookaburra ave fish and chip shop is now my go to for said food. Usally buy 2 pieces of flake because they are always so small, got home and was blown away they serve you an actual piece of fish not just a mouth sized morsel and it tastes fantastic. Prawns in batter that taste fresh and are delicious compared to the pieces of rubber that most shops pass off. And finally the service is so friendly and fast.
Classic fish and chip shop. Just as good as any other. Friendly staff. Highly recommend. Well priced and conveniently located.
