What an amazing find in an otherwise dormant food scene! AJs offer anything but a regular menu. If deep fried oreos or blood and guts tempt you give this proudly kiwi institution a try. There’s a range of fish on offer and burgers are a popular alternative. The seated eating area offers welcome relief on a windy day.
Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had! Everything was terrible! Waited for over an hour then received cold soggy food that had been sitting for at least 30 minutes. Customer service was worse than bad. If you want to serve NZ fish and chips I suggest you go back there and do it!
Ordered online a meal deal of snapper and chips and a chiko roll.
Came in a styrofoam type container that was stapled close.
We went to watch sunset with friends. Opened container, and there were no chips. We didn’t go back as we would have missed the sunset. Luckily, friends with us shared their chips. The fish was beautiful, so just disappointed we didn’t get chips.
I have emailed to let them know, but no reply as of yet.

The snapper was amazing, really fresh, not greasy at all and well battered. Highly recommend if you’re in the area (Ps this is coming from a Brit as well!) 😄
I am becoming extremely disappointed in how looooong you have to wait for food at AJs. The food is amazing, I cannot deny that. However, we order 2x snapper and chips and the wait last night was 45 minutes and I only got our food then as I complained that 45 minutes is not acceptable for “fast food”. Their excuse was “we are all teenagers and doing our best and we have to give numbers out in order”. So our order had been ready for ages and we had been waiting for ages while it was under hot lamps. But also, the teenagers were very polite and didn’t deserve the multiple complaints they got last night. Maybe AJ’s owners need to look serving times and their policy of leaving 2x simple fish and chips under hot lamps purely to fulfill prior orders first. Still amazing fish and chips but I won’t be returning.

Very prominent in Bunbury, this seemed to be the best choice – we were correct.

It was exceeding busy, but our wait was still only about 20 minutes – very good.
It indicates “Family owned” – a good sign.
Parking quite difficult (as it was busy), we parked around the corner.
Service was excellent.
