About
Amberjacks is a casual counter-service fish and chip shop in Cottesloe, right alongside one of Perth’s most visited stretches of coastline. Open seven days from mid-morning through to the evening, it draws a steady mix of families, tourists, and university students looking for a quick, satisfying meal. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with outdoor seating and kerbside pickup rounding out the options.
The menu centres on West Australian fish and chips, with battered fish served in notably generous portions. Regulars mention the light, crispy batter as a highlight, and the chip serves are described as substantial even at the smaller sizes. The shop also offers coffee and brunch items alongside its main seafood fare, making it a flexible spot for more than just a classic afternoon feed.
Pricing sits at the higher end compared with many Perth fish and chips venues, which is reflected in some mixed feedback from regulars. Condiments and drinks carry additional charges, something worth keeping in mind before you order. Waits can stretch during busy periods, particularly in summer when the location draws large crowds, so quieter days tend to produce a more relaxed experience.
It is a family-friendly venue with a kids’ menu, and no reservations are taken, so walk-ins should expect a short queue at peak times. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to gauge wait times.

Both me and my brother ordered fish and chips. Chips were okay not thick hand cut but came out hot and crispy. However, fish (hake) was one of the worst I have ever had. I work in a fish and chip shop in Melbourne that serves hake and if I pulled this out of my fryer I would’ve put it straight in the bin. It was way too thin (basicaly all batter no fish), dry and held too much oil. The batter round the fish was soggy. No seasoning on fish either! Tartare sauce was grim no flavour and weird texture. Just to add the store was not busy when we ordered. Disappointed.
Been here a few times. I try to avoid in summer as it’s manic and not as good.
Beautiful winters day in the beach and hot crispy, light battered fish is hard to beat. I got the yellow fin whiting fillets, ridiculous price @$24 but it was bloody good. Chips standard commercial but hot, crispy and it was all served in paper 😁
Pricey but a great meal with the family
Used to be my favourite place for fish n chips in all of Perth. While still great and had a huge portion of chips (small chips is already quite alot), I can no longer say it’s one of the top few. It’s on a perfect location just by the beach. May or may not return.
-Fish & Chips (Battered) (AUD 22)
Huge portion and really tasty! The batter wasn’t too thick, which made it perfect.
-Tartar Sauce (AUD 2.90)
Staff was kind and even gave me sweet chili sauce for free.
Nice ambience as well, overall a pleasant experience!
$37 for 150 grs of grilled fish plus a prepacked “greek salad”. Arrived late, no salt, $3 extra for sauces. First and Last time in this place
First rip off of 2026
Writing this review still hungry and really disappointed
I only do reviews when i really feel it was good or it was shit

Absolutely awful experience. The fish and chips were horrible — incredibly greasy, tiny portions, and way overpriced for what you get. The chips were burnt, dry, and somehow still swimming in oil. No salt, no flavour, nothing enjoyable about it at all.
To make it worse, the service was terrible. Staff were on their phones sending texts instead of paying attention to customers, which really says it all.
This was a complete waste of money. I left frustrated and disappointed and will definitely not be coming back. Would not recommend to anyone.
Chips was ok but fish was half battered and chips has no salt. After we asked them to add chicken salt. Little disappointing for family platter and extra fish and chips.
Chips were fairly priced, not the best i’ve ever had but not the worst, pretty average, I thought it was crazy that a small thing of tomato sauce costs $2.50?? and a 600ml drink is $6.90… I get it’s right next to the beach but it’s just a bit exorbitant. The service was warm and friendly but I would appreciate if the girls serving would tie up their hair when around food.
