About
Al’s Fish N Chips N Hot Food has built a strong reputation in Koongamia, with well over four and a half stars from nearly 250 reviews. Locals and visitors from across the Perth metro area make the trip out, and it’s not hard to see why. The fish is consistently fresh, with a light, crispy batter that holds together without being heavy or greasy. Chips come out crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, and the portions are generous enough to make the meal genuinely good value.
The signature shark is a highlight worth knowing about. Fresh and fleshy with a tender flake, it’s the kind of fish that converts first-timers into regulars. Potato scallops and pineapple fritters round out the menu in style, drawing their own loyal following among people who know what to order. The kids’ menu makes Al’s a practical choice for families looking for a relaxed fish and chip shop dinner in the Perth Hills.
Al’s operates on a takeaway and delivery basis, so there’s no sit-down dining, but free parking keeps things easy for a quick pick-up. The dinner service is popular, so ordering ahead during the evening rush is a smart move.
Phone ahead for orders during the dinner rush.

We ordered fish and chips for dinner for 4 people (Calamari, Shark, 2 potato cakes and chips), told it would be a 15-20 minute wait over the phone. We waited at least 40 minutes for Calamari that was very close to burnt and chips that were greasy enough to drip onto the paper when we picked them up and most couldn’t be eaten.
The shop was reasonably busy and we understand that things might take longer as a result. but we’re really disappointed in the quality of the food after waiting so long.

What we liked:
Standard fish as part of a meal was thick, well cooked and wasn’t dry like packet fish.
Chips were well cooked and good texture, taste was excellent.
Quick turnaround from phone call to pickup and friendly service.
No bad taste from the oil on chips or fish, seems like they use good ingredients to start with.
What we’ve had better:
Price is probably the mid point, not super expensive not super cheap.
Chips serving smaller than some other shops, but fish was larger or equal.
Batter is a bit sweet and on some pieces generously applied, bit of excess oil in places.
Overall, good quality, good place, would recommend to friends just with the caveat that the batter may or may not be to your taste.
Outstanding. Fluffy crispy light batter, tender flaky fish, crispy chips. Great value. I think this might be Perth’s BEST Fish and Chips. Well done guys.
1st try at Als, used to go to High wycombe fish and chips but it’s gone right down hill, Als was recommended to us.
This was honestly the best fish and chips ever had in Perth.
Crispy thin battery, flaky white fish, chips that are crisp and fluffy, onion rings with actual onion in them-not just batter.
Very nice tucker.
Bad attitude by the owner. If you want to accept Uber Eats and Doordash delivery orders then you MUST put your food in a paper bag. Not hand the wrapped fish and chips to the driver and tell me I have to put that in my insulated bag where it will cause the fish and chips to soak through the paper.
Then you expect me to handle it safely and hand it to the customer or drop it down on the floor outside someone’s door. Grow up and stop being stingy trying to save yourself 30 cents. The paper bags were sitting there with string handles and I’ve picked up several orders from you before and you put it in a bag.
I hope you had to make tonights order again after you refused to put it in a delivery bag. Grow up.
Was on a marketplace mystery tour with my better half x and came across this place. We are so glad we agreed to get fish and chips here, rather than going home to Joondalup to our usual shop. The portion size was great 2 bits of fish, fluffy and crispy, plenty of chips and not greasy, but the best bit was the tattie fritters (potato Scollops), these were just like back in our homeland, thick cut, fluffy but holding up, and crispy batter. I really can’t rave enough about this place, it’s a bit of a jaunt from Joondalup, but we will be back for a wee treat now and again, keep up the good work Al.
I was so pleasantly surprised how fresh and fleshy the shark is. Definitely my favourite GO TO for Fish, pineapple fritter, potato scallops, and yummy chips.
Totally recommend Al’s FISH & CHIPS ❤️
If your from the uk, don’t even bother going there!
Probs the worst fish n chips I’ve ever had!
