About
Chips R Us is a popular takeaway fish and chip shop serving the Midland community for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday. With free parking on-site and a relaxed, family-friendly setup, it draws a steady crowd of locals looking for a straightforward, satisfying feed after work or on a Friday night.
The hand-cut chips are the clear highlight, regularly praised for being crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The batter on the fish is noted for being light rather than heavy, and portions are considered generous by regulars. Beyond the standard fare, the menu features NZ hake, shark, battered crab sticks, squid rings, potato scallops, pineapple fritters, and a minimum chips option for smaller appetites. The potato scallops in particular draw repeat visits, and the pineapple fritter has its fans too.
It is fair to say the shop has a mixed recent history. A number of long-time visitors have noted inconsistency since a change in ownership, with some reporting overcooked or dried-out items on occasion. On a good night, though, the results genuinely impress, and the service is consistently described as friendly and efficient. A short wait during peak hours is fairly standard.
Chips R Us earns a solid four-plus star reputation across its reviews, which is no small thing for a busy suburban takeaway in the Perth metro area. Open Tuesday to Saturday from the afternoon through the early evening. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to avoid a longer wait.

Yummy and crispy. Fresh too. One of the best fish and chip I had so far.
Popped into this spot for some fish and chips and it did not disappoint. The fish was fresh and crispy, and the chips were hot and fluffy just how they should be. Staff were friendly, and service was quick. Solid place for a classic, no-fuss meal. Would definitely go back.
One of the best fish and chips in Perth with reasonable prices too. Chips are amazing, crispy on the outside and soft inside, fish is very tasty, good portions too. Tried other goodies too. Loved the fried prawns and pineapple fritter. Highly recommend
I have had different experiences since the new owners took over but last night they out did themselves.
Their potato scallops where just how I like them.
The wife enjoyed her crab sticks and a serving of squid rings.
I do wish they would take a leap into the 21st century and start accepting EFTPOS
Lovely crunchie hand cut chips, very light batter on the fish, perfect, but I do not think we received the Barramundi we ordered, it didn’t taste like Barra, and the fillet was thin, unlike Barramundi, fish could be less oily
Good service, lovely people
We placed a large order for delivery and were very disappointed with the quality. The chips, fish, and crab sticks were all overcooked—burnt, dry, and unpleasant to eat.
When we contacted the shop, the owner blamed new potatoes and the fact that the chips are hand-cut, with no offer of a replacement or refund. I understand that hand-cut chips can vary in colour, and I can accept darker chips—but not food that is burnt and dry.
New potatoes also do not explain why the fish and crab sticks were overcooked. Mistakes happen, but food in this condition should not be sent out.
We’ve been customers for many years and continued supporting the business after the previous family owners sold it. Unfortunately, this experience was very disappointing, and I don’t think we’ll be returning.
.
The food wasn’t what I was expecting the fish didn’t taste good the chips was overcooked, I feel like I wasted my money
Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The barramundi was a tiny thin fillet and the batter was awful. Chips were dry and overcooked. A complete waste of money as I threw it in the bin.
