About
Flatheads is a fish and chip shop in O’Connor, ACT, that does a bit more than the usual suburban seafood fare. Open seven days from early morning through to the evening, it covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a menu that ranges from classic fish and chips to grilled barramundi, fish burgers, prawn cutlets, and potato cakes. The grilled barramundi is the signature dish and draws regulars back repeatedly, with many rating it among the better fish options in the area.
The menu extends beyond seafood, with pizza available and a café side that locals seem to appreciate. The coffee gets a solid mention from morning visitors, and chip serves are noted as generous. The staff have a reputation for being friendly and patient, which makes the family-friendly setup work well. Dine-in and takeaway are both on offer, and the shop is accessible, with wheelchair-friendly parking and entry. Delivery is available too.
Reviews are mixed on consistency and value, with some visits hitting the mark and others falling a little flat. The shop draws a steady crowd of locals, and for those who connect with what Flatheads does well, it becomes a regular stop. For anyone in Canberra’s inner north looking for a relaxed spot that covers the fish and chips basics and then some, it is worth checking out.

Small place with reasonable price. The pizza (the first one in the menu) was good and the family size chips was quite generous to be consumed by 6 people. The hot chocolate was okay and it is a must to try their belgian chocochip cookies.
Overall, good place to fill emergency empty tummy.
Dropped in for the essential weekend coffees and hot choc first thing in the morning. Service was friendly and quick. Business was a steady flow of locals (except us) and their dogs (except ours). Plenty of free parking nearby on a quiet street. Most importantly, their hot cappuccinos and hot choc were great. Recommended.
Well a little disappointing. Not bad just not the sort of place you’d go back to. Pizza just ok/ fish & chips the same. Can’t really recommend
Please don’t waste your money here. We ordered a takeaway fish and calamari box and, after waiting 40 minutes, received a small box of cold chips. We realised half way on the drive home that they had forgotten our fish.
I’m sorry, but $23 for cold chips and missing fish is a joke – especially considering this place is a literal fish and chip shop. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
The fish is great but two orders of potato cakes were not cooked on the inside, cold and wet even after the first complaint. Too thick oil too hot. It’s not rocket science
Just paid $35 for a small piece of grilled fish, 3 small prawn cutlets and three potato scallops the were half raw with half cooked batter. Worst value meal in Canberra ever. Steer clear.
Everything was cooked perfectly and priced so well. The service was wonderful the lovely lady who served us was patientand accommodating with all questions. I would highly recommend this place to anyone it’s amazing we will definitely be back!
