About
Berowra Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop serving the Berowra community in the northern reaches of New South Wales. With a strong reputation built across nearly a hundred reviews, the shop earns its following through straightforward cooking done well, friendly staff, and prices that represent genuine value for the region.
The menu hits the classic notes with confidence. Fish and chips are cooked to a satisfying crunch, and the potato scallops are a local favourite, praised for their crisp coating. Chips come seasoned with chicken salt and are regularly described as fresh and delicious. The signature burger with the lot and chips is a standout order, assembled carefully so it holds together, with a fresh bun, crisp salad, and juicy meat making it a meal worth planning around. Fish cocktails are notably generous in size, so first-timers are wise to order with some restraint.
Service is fast and friendly, and the team has a knack for keeping things moving even when the kitchen is busy. Regulars have been known to duck next door to the bakery while they wait, returning to find their order ready in a paper carry bag. The shop is takeaway only and is open for both lunch and dinner, drawing in locals and walkers from the nearby Great North Walk trailhead.
For anyone after honest, no-fuss fish and chips in Berowra, this is a reliable choice. Check opening hours before visiting, as they can vary.

There is beauty to simplicity. Especially when the staff makes it look effortless. This is just what you crave when you complete a section of the Great North Walk from the nearby trailhead.
This place doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. Good, cheap fish and chip shop. The hours can fluctuate sometimes but otherwise good shop. Nice chips and scallops in particular. Also, the fish cocktails are huge, so don’t over order. Randy and Cindy are absolutely lovely and it’s always a pleasure to visit.
Typical suburban takeaway offering a range of hot food. The chips and scallops are always fresh and hot with a perfect light batter. Haven’t tried the burgers but they look delicious and are popular with patrons. Good spot for a quick lunch drop-in or to grab a bite on the way home from the train.
Hands down – Best burger & chips!!
Burger was assembled & wrapped so that cut could be easily eaten. Super fresh bun & salad and the chips fresh and delicious.
The perfect feast of fish and chips in the region. Always cooked well, the right amount of crunch and taste. Service is brilliant, we went next door to the bakery while we waited and they brought our order to us in a paper carry bag. Super fast and friendly. I can’t wait to go back and try something else on their menu.
Best burger and chips I have had in my life! I went overboard and spent more money than I should have haha but wow that is a place i won’t forget.
I had the burger with the lot (bacon, egg, cheese, beef, tomato, lettuce, the usual) and I couldn’t even get a photo i couldn’t help but dig in! The buns were really fresh and all the meat very juicy and tasty.
The chips were delicious also, you can’t go wrong with chicken salt. The calamari rings were really good too, everything was hot and tasty!
Great place to visit if you’re on your way to or back from the Ridge Top Campground like I was, or if you’re in the area and just want something to eat! Wait times are a little long but that is expected for a two person operation, they did an amazing job!
I highly recommend visiting for a quick meal, that’s 33 dollars i don’t regret spending one bit!
Great takeaway. Excellent value for money. Always delicious. Satisfying food that even appeases the appetite of the hungriest teenager.
Milk bar classics – even the pricing is nostalgic. A generous burger with the lot will set you back less than $15. This place needs to be protected at all costs!
