About
The Stunned Mullet is a well-regarded fish and chip shop sitting right on the edge of Cabarita Beach, on the New South Wales far north coast. Open every day for lunch and dinner, it draws a mix of locals, families, and visitors looking for something a little more considered than the standard takeaway. Free parking makes it easy to get to, and outdoor seating means you can settle in properly rather than eating on the run.
The menu goes well beyond the classic fish and chips. The fish burritos and fish tacos have built a strong following, with regulars noting the generous amount of actual grilled fish packed into the tacos and the quality that puts pricier competitors to shame. Real potato scallops, served with rosemary salt, are a highlight worth ordering. Whiting, dim sims, and fresh salads round out a menu that clearly puts some thought into variety. Smoothies and lighter options also feature, and there are solid choices for vegetarian and gluten-free eaters.
Families are well looked after with a dedicated kids’ menu, and the venue is genuinely comfortable for groups and tourists. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the shop accepts card and mobile payments. Toddlers, travelling couples, and solo diners all seem to find their place here without any fuss.
With a solid reputation built across hundreds of visits, The Stunned Mullet earns its place among the better fish and chips spots in the Cabarita Beach area. Phone ahead for larger orders during the dinner rush.

Beautiful fish and chips. Thoroughly enjoyed the whiting and potato cakes made from real slices of potato. My husband said the dimsims were excellent. We ordered take away, toddler also enjoyed the fish and potato cake. The fries ‘small’ were a big potion, I’d say enough for 3-4 people decently.
Had a truly excellent lunch from here today. The fish tacos were brilliant – so much better than ones we spent twice as much for elsewhere. They actually had a lot of grilled fish on them. The side salad was delicious, as was the fish and chips. Highly recommended.
Smoking hot beach day chilling and eating delicious food from some great people, what a fantastic meal to top the day off.
Much appreciated
I will be back 🙌
Try the potato scallops with Rosemary salt. Its a healthier version of fish and chip.Everything in Kingscliff is fresh. So go for drive sit outside and it’s pet friendly.Family ,friends,or just yourself and try it when you finish write up on here.I drive there just to have this.
Awesome food to feed the masses or simply sit out at the tables with a glass of wine and a friend or two!! Stunned Mullet is well priced and has beautifully cooked fresh fish and burgers…and i especially love the pineapple fritter donuts. Highly recommend!! x
Perfectly presented and too cute is this gem of a fish and chip shop. Thank you chef for grilling a cod fillet for my border collie. This is fish n chips with optimum crunch and taste. I recommend the rosemary and garlic salt on your chips. Whilst there a young local lad came into order. Both the owner and I were overly impressed with his manners. We both hope he lands a job here. We’ll be back 🙋🏼♀️ 🐾🙏🏼♾🙏🏼🌸
Seriously, if you are anywhere near Caba, you need to eat here. I just did a 50-minute drive for this meal and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
The beef burger was to die foreasily one of the best I’ve hadand the shoestring chips were absolute perfection. We desperately need this joint on the Gold Coast! Appreciate you being so helpful on recommending aswell 🍔🔥
Below average
– potato cakes – solid.
– fish and calamari both very overcooked. Fish in particular was covered in batter and didn’t get much fish at all
– dim sim just not a dim sim. More like a big spring roll which is why they charge $4.50
– Crispy fish burrito – the entire burrito is battered and deep fried then smothered in sauce. I thought I was getting your typical burrito with crispy fish. Wouldn’t recommend.
All in all, it was edible. Didn’t really enjoy it and do not feel great after eating it.
Asked for recommendation on a local fish and the staff responded with “I have no idea”. I then heard laughter from the kitchen. That’s what happens when you put 5 teenagers with no visible supervision. Don’t really care as it’s a fish and chip shop but that’s why service was 2/5.
