About
Salt Village Fish & Chips sits in Kingscliff, on the New South Wales far north coast, and offers both dine-in and takeaway for anyone after a solid fish and chip meal in the area. Outdoor seating, free parking, and full wheelchair access make it an easy choice for families and groups of all kinds. The venue is family-friendly and LGBTQ+ friendly, with a casual atmosphere that suits a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner.
The menu covers the classics alongside some more considered options. King prawns, calamari, and fresh fish feature prominently, and the shop rotates weekly specials built around Australian-caught fish and locally sourced cooked king prawns. Burgers, salads, and small plates round things out, and there is a kids’ menu for younger diners. Gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options are available too, which is broader than most fish and chip shops in the region. Regulars point to the grilled barramundi and king prawns as particular highlights, with the basket-for-one noted as good value and a generous variety.
The chips come thick and well-seasoned, and the beef dim sims have their fans. Meal deals for two get a mention as a solid option when dining in. Prices sit a touch higher than a typical suburban chippy, though most regulars feel the quality of the fish and the freshness of the produce justifies the spend. Service is generally quick on takeaway orders, which helps during busier periods.
A good option for lunch or dinner in Kingscliff, especially for those wanting something a little beyond the standard takeaway fare. Phone ahead during peak dinner service to keep wait times down.

I wish I read the reviews before ordering. But thankfully my experience wasn’t too bad.
I got a fish burger, chips and a drink ($28.30!!).
My fish seemed fine. The bun was clearly not fresh. Maybe 1-2 days old.
Chips were fine. Needed more salt. But oh my gosh they are YELLOW! That tells me that the oil hasn’t been changed over in a while.
Service was fine. But there was two staff members just sitting on the stools nearby, watching my every move. Made me uncomfortable.
Upgraded the meal for 2, to snapper for both of us. Received one piece of dried out snapper and a piece of even drier barramundi. Calamari was orange?? Crumbs on the fish were over cooked and hard. Customer service is non existent. The blonde chick on the register really didn’t want to be there. Incredibly disappointing given the amount of money we spent
Great food for an easy and quite bite, with a few people sitting down for dinner. Takeaway was quick and easy small line but more than worth the wait, I recommend the Basket for 1 as provided good variety and worth the price, loads of chips hidden beneath. We will be coming soon, already getting hungry!
Food was fresh & delicious! Service was great too. Chips are thick & seasoned perfectly. Loved the beef dim sims and the meal deal for 2! A bit pricey compared to others but worth it!
Super disappointed with our takeaway order. We ordered a family pack which is supposed to be 4 pieces of fish, 4 crumbed prawns, 8 calamari’s, 4 potato scallops and large chips. After driving back to our unit we realised they forgot half our order – missing two pieces of fish and 4 calamari. Make sure you double check your order before leaving the store!
If you’re hungry now, bad news. An hour wait for a simple chicken schnitzel burger and chips. Other customers standing around for over 90 minutes waiting for their food, yet the staff are still taking orders over the phone, ignoring everyone in the store.
Burger and chips weren’t bad, but next time will just go to the pub a few doors down.
Absolutely shocking, Took 50 minutes to make was cold the potato cakes weren’t cooked the chips weren’t cooked nor salted. Complete waste of $90.
The grilled barramundi and prawns are the best I’ve ever had—better than many fish and chip shops and even some fine-dining restaurants. The other menu items are equally delicious, and my son always asks for seconds, which says a lot. Overall, highly recommended.
