About
Okky Fish Chips Salad brings something genuinely different to the Pottsville dining scene. This casual fish and chip shop blends the Australian takeaway tradition with a Japanese-inspired approach, producing dishes that regulars and visiting tourists alike tend to rave about. The barramundi is a standout menu item, prepared with a light, crispy batter that earns consistent praise, and the fish karaage burger has developed a loyal following of its own. Whiting, calamari, and chicken karaage round out a menu that keeps both traditionalists and adventurous eaters happy.
One of the shop’s most notable features is that every item on the menu is prepared to be gluten free friendly, making it a reliable choice for diners who often struggle to find something safe at a conventional fish and chip shop. Sweet potato chips sit alongside the classic potato chips, both served hot and fresh. The menu also draws on a broader salad offering, so the options extend well beyond the usual battered fare.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with table seating and wheelchair-accessible parking, entrance, and seating on site. Free parking is offered both on-site and on the street. The shop is family friendly with a kids’ menu, and the laid-back atmosphere suits solo diners and tourists passing through the northern New South Wales coast equally well. Open seven days for lunch and dinner, it’s the kind of place that’s easy to come back to.

Fantastic Japanese twist on our beloved Fish and Chips
We had flawless Barramundi in a nice light batter and a Karagae Fish burger that I can only give 5 stars to.
Sides of chips both standard and sweet potato were hot, fresh and crispy exactly as they should be. Very well played Okky!
We will be back!
Loved the fish & chips here! Everything is gluten free and we tried both battered and grilled. Absolutely loved the quinoa and black rice salad
Okky at Pottsville Beach is a hidden gem! Their fish and chips are out of this world – super fresh fish with the crispiest batter, and a delightful Japanese twist that makes it stand out. The vibe is laid-back, the staff are lovely, and it’s the perfect spot for a delicious bite after a day at the beach. A must-visit if you’re in the area!
We had the fish, calamari, prawn cutlets, potato scallops and chips.
So fresh and crispy and all gluten free!!
They also do a lot of Japanese inspired dishes – all also GF!
Fish and Chips but better than the average take away.
I’ve been here twice now and the food was equally delicious both times. A bonus for this business is that EVERYTHING on the menu is gluten free.
Each time I ordered the battered Snapper and the combo chips – a mix of regular potato and sweet potato chips. On one occasion I also had one of their tasty salads.
The fish was firm and moist with a thin battery, the chips hot and crisp. The salad selection is different to the usual offerings at F&C places. Portions are good value for money.
The first time I was served by the owner and she was charming and attentive. The second time I was served by a young lady who was polite, but not really focused on customers, so I dropped a star. A little extra “customer service” and it would be 5 stars all around.
I fully recommend if you’re near Pottsville and I’ll come again even for a day trip from Brisbane.
Chips were yummy but the snapper was a bit overcooked still tasted good just slightly overcooked. Price was quite high considering the serving size around $17 for snapper then an extra $4 for chips or salad. I paid extra for some aoli bringing my total to $23. For one snapper fillet I’m fairly disappointed.
On holiday from the home of fish and chips , the UK , and my meal was way better than most there .
This Barramundi was cooked to perfection beautiful crispy light batter, fantastic value
Just a shame you are 10,000 miles away as I would be eating there every week .!
Make sure you check your order. The tweens at the counter will give you squid instead of chicken and then tell you that you ordered squid for 2yo’s. THANKS FOR THAT. Also zero cares on fixing the situation also thanks for that.
