About
Fiona’s Takeaway is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Toronto, New South Wales, drawing regulars from across the Hunter Valley and beyond. With a solid four-plus star reputation built across hundreds of visits, the shop has earned its following through consistent quality and a refusal to cut corners. The fish here is proper flake, not a cheap substitute, and that detail matters to the people who keep coming back.
The homemade chips are the headline act. Freshly cut and cooked to order, they can even be priced the old-school way, by dollar amount rather than a fixed portion size. Potato scallops and Pluto pups round out the classic side options, both items that are genuinely hard to find done well these days. The menu stretches beyond the traditional, adding kebabs, coffee, and salads for those after something a little different.
Dine-in seating is available on-site, making it a comfortable stop for families. A kids’ menu is on offer, the atmosphere is casual, and both the entrance and car park are wheelchair accessible. Service is consistently described as friendly and welcoming, and the shop is popular for both lunch and dinner.
Toronto locals and road-trippers passing through New South Wales have been making Fiona’s a regular stop for years. Parking is easy, wait times are short, and the food is exactly what a good fish and chips shop should deliver. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to keep things moving.

Short wait time. Plenty of parking friendly service.
Fresh cut chips were tasty and the fish was good too.
Burgers pretty good. Battered fish good. The worst potato scallops I’ve ever had. So small in size and almost zero potato inside. Wafer thin. Good grief how much does it cost for a slice of potato. I’ve had bad potato scallop before, but this is an all time low.
Great little takeaway that does all your normal fish and chip shop food l, but adds kebabs, coffee, and salads. Best part is the chips can be ordered old school, as in I’ll have $8.40 worth of chips please bc that’s all the coin we’ve all pulled together. 👍
Stopped in on way home to Sydney I was hungry but I got there and shop was closed but the gentleman there I believe his name is Chow welcomed me in and said the oil is still hot so I ordered fish and chips. That is something out of the ordinary for me as take away a have declined in quality over the years but I was blown away when I seen they made their own chips and the fish was proper flake fish not Basa fillet the quality was out of control and I had a very nostalgic moment from my childhood well done to the owners and staff there you made a hungry traveler very happy and satisfied
Food was excellent, home made chips, potato scallops and Pluto pups are hard to find, the best I have had for a long time, I recommend you give it a go, we come from hunter valley and will definitely do the drive for another feed there 👍
Very good quality fish and chips.
.They don’t take cheap shortcuts in the preparation of their food.
Recommend this takeaway shop.
Sorry to say just picked up burgers chips and scallops. They are tasteless and buns aren’t proper buns so get soggy quicker. Homemade potato scallops but done in old oil it seemed. Chips floppy but tasted nice. Service was very friendly but won’t bring us back unfortunately.
Rathmines takeaway is closed so tried Fiona’s hoping it would be good.
Great hot chips!
Burgers are good too.
Generous servings
