About
Urunga Seafood & Takeaway is a women-owned fish and chip shop serving up lunch and dinner in the small coastal town of Urunga on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. The venue offers both dine-in and takeaway, with outdoor seating available for those who want to sit and savour their meal at a leisurely pace.
The fish and chips here have earned decent reviews across a solid number of visitors, with regulars and passing travellers alike noting the quality. The battered fish is known for being well cooked and fresh, with a crumbed option also popular among the regulars. Chips come out crispy on the outside with a soft centre, and the serves are generous enough that a family of four can sometimes struggle to finish the lot. Calamari features on the menu and draws its share of fans, and the battered sav gets a mention from those who appreciate the old-school classics.
Beyond the core fish and chips, the menu stretches to include a salad bar, small plates, vegetarian options, a kids’ menu, and even dessert. Families are well catered for, and the casual, friendly atmosphere suits groups, solo diners, and tourists stopping through Urunga. The shop is wheelchair accessible, with a car park, accessible entrance, and accessible seating all available. Card and mobile payments are accepted, and parking is free nearby.
Wait times can stretch a little during busy periods, though the turnaround is generally reasonable. Phone ahead during the dinner rush if you are in a hurry.

We rarely get take away but being on holidays decided that fish and chips on the water would be a great dinner. It worked out just over $100 (which for our big family wasn’t too bad). We waited about 20 minutes, which was fine.
We left and opened the bag and the fish was dark brown and shiny from the oil. The calamari rings were soggy and broken with black bits, I assume came from the fryer covering them. The chips and scallops were just about edible, so I called and asked if we could replace the fish and calamari as it was inedible. They said the problem was that the oil needed changing and they could remake it and let it drain for longer.
The food came out looking exactly the same, this time with a dead and squished fly on the bag. Not sure if he was put in as an extra for our trouble but I was quite happy without him!
So we ended up spending $100 on a bag of chips and threw the rest in the bin.
So disappointed.
Visited at a busy time, waited only about 15 – 20mins. Well worth the wait, we really enjoyed the house fish and chips!
Absolutely delicious thanks team. Wishing you a great new year!
We purchased fish and chips for my family of four. It was delicious! The fish was a little darker than usual but so well cooked and fresh. We ordered 3 pieces of fish, 12 calamari and a large chips. While delicious, we couldn’t finish it all because the servings were so large. Highly recommended!
Lovely, friendly and the food is amazing . We got 2 x classic fish and chips . The fish was crumbled and cooked to perfection. The chips have the crispy outside with that melt in your mouth centre, absolutely beautiful. The cleanliness of the place was outstanding. The owner of this establishment obviously knows the business of fish and chips with outstanding service with a generous smile. Well worth a visit
We have been getting fish and chips here for a few years now.
I read the reviews prior to ordering food , hoping they were wrong.
The reviews were right.
Overpriced and over cooked.
Generally the food was poor quality.
Did not get to go back as we where passing through on the way to Bello.
$2.50 for each fish cocktail… picture shown how big they were… so tiny! came here years ago and the fish was so fresh and large. My kids couldn’t eat it as didn’t even taste like fish.. consistency was like mashed potato. Wont be back.
Good fresh fish and chips at reasonable prices – especially loved the chips! Hoki was the fish the day when we carried out a family sized order. Options for crumbed or breaded – I’d go breaded next time. Strictly personal preference. Overall a good catch!
The best fish and chips, plus battered sav and sauce, I’ve had for years. Sat outside at their little table with chairs on the peaceful street . A little coastal gem with great food. I’ll definitely be back.
Nothing better than fish and chips when the stomach starts growling!!!!
