About
The Salty Crab is a fish and chip shop in Vincentia, on the New South Wales South Coast, with a solid following built on a broad menu and convenient options for dine-in, takeaway, and delivery. The signature crab burger draws plenty of attention, and the menu extends to battered fish, calamari, prawns, and salt and pepper squid. Outdoor seating, a kids’ menu, wheelchair accessibility, and free parking make it an accessible spot for families heading out for lunch or dinner.
With over a thousand reviews and a well-rated presence on Google, The Salty Crab clearly attracts a large volume of diners across the Vincentia area. Some regulars speak highly of the staff and consider it among the best fish and chips in the region. The venue has a casual atmosphere that suits relaxed meals with the family.
That said, the experience appears inconsistent. Chips have drawn mixed feedback, with some visitors finding them undercooked or lacking flavour, and wait times can stretch considerably even outside peak hours. Portion sizes relative to price are a point of contention for some diners, and it is worth noting that prices are not displayed on the board, so it pays to ask before ordering. The crab burger and fried chicken burger have fared better in feedback, with the latter noted as enjoyable.
A family-friendly fish and chips outing in Vincentia, The Salty Crab offers plenty of menu variety and good accessibility. Phone ahead during busy periods to get a sense of current wait times.

The food and service i have received were outstanding! Best Fish and Chips in NSW! Staff were very friendly and happy to help!
It’s a pity that the high price doesn’t include cooking the chips properly, a major shortcoming for such an establishment. We got home to find that ours were badly undercooked. Prices are not on the display board, so you’ll either have to ask the (surly) person at the counter and you’ll grudgingly get an answer, or hint down the printed menus which are at least well-presented.
Me and my family stopped off to grab a family deal which consisted of 2 battered fish , 4 crab sticks , 2 prawns , some calamari rings and s/p squid and a large chips. Costing around $50 , you’d expect fresh chips.
The chips we received were cold and seemed like they had been sitting for a while.
No one ate them as they were actually disgusting.
The rest of the food was great , just abit pricey.
Was quoted a 20-25 minute wait, ended up being 45+ mins. I get it, lunchtime can be busy especially in the holidays.
Missing food in my order, had to go back a get my potato scallops I ordered but wasn’t included. No worries, things get missed time to time.
What sent me over the edge – $16.90 for this “grilled flathead” confirmed by two staff. At first I thought it was a bit of extra food that didn’t fit in another bag of food I ordered. Unfortunately not – this is the full serve. You be the judge.
What a disappointment. The salty crab was really hyped up to us by many locals and other businesses. Told it was the best fish and chips around.
Went there today just before lunch time with my fiance. We got battered barramundi and battered flathead. First of all, it took at least 25 minutes just to receive our food despite being the first people to order and only waiting with one other customer in the restaurant.
The restaurant is boiling hot, with no AC, it was colder outside in 33 degree weather than it was inside the store. It is also cramped and not very pleasant to eat in.
Onto the food. We were told was the best in the area.. horrible. The fish batter was soggy – no crunch at all to it on BOTH types of fish, barely any flavour, greasy as all hell and oh my god do NOT get me started on the chips.
Plain, bland, not enough salt, no chicken salt, some chips were cold, some chips were burnt, some chips weren’t cooked enough. And the quality of the chips were terrible, no nice crisp outside, just a mixture of mushy, and burnt to shit chips.
Workers were just playing music and not doing all that much, probably contributed to the long wait time. 👎🏻
High price, 20 dollars just for one piece of fish and some chips. 👎🏻
Another thing, my fiance feels sick and has heart burn after eating there.
Don’t go here. It’s definitely not the best fish and chips around – I have a weird feeling people were actually being sarcastic with us when they said it now because no way could it get worse than here.
Ordered the works burger – onion was uncooked and burger pretty sloppy. The fried chicken burger was enjoyable, decent amount of chicken, would’ve loved more sauce. There was a significant wait time even after dodging peak rush hour. Didn’t order the fish and chips but they looked fresh!
Consistency is the key and unfortunately you never know what your going to get! Hot chips that are inedible due to old dirty oil. Make sure you check your food before leaving the shop.
Id go here if you want to pay TOO much money for BLAND food, that’ll take 50 minutes to cook when there is 3 other customers and 5 staff members in kitchen…. It wasn’t busy at all
They also put the order through wrong instead of beef burger it was chicken..
salt and pepper squid tasted like cardboard.
Chips didn’t have salt, no chicken salt either
Spent over $60 won’t be coming back
