About
Groovy Groper is a women-owned fish and chips shop in Clontarf, on Queensland’s Redcliffe Peninsula, open for lunch and dinner with both dine-in and takeaway available. The shop has outdoor seating, a kids’ menu, and free on-site parking, making it a practical choice for families looking for a casual meal.
The menu covers the classics well. Hamburgers with handmade meat patties, grilled barramundi, crumbed cod, calamari, chips, and fresh salad all feature regularly. The owner has a reputation for friendly, attentive service, often making personalised recommendations and going out of her way to accommodate requests. Regulars point to the chips and the handmade burger patties as particular highlights.
Decent reviews from a solid number of visitors reflect a mixed but generally positive experience. The food quality draws consistent praise, especially the freshly cooked fish and the calamari. Service, at times, has been less consistent, and wait times during busy periods can stretch longer than expected. That said, the warmth of the owner herself is a theme that comes up regularly.
Catering is available for larger gatherings, and the shop accepts card and mobile payments. Wheelchair-accessible parking is on-site. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to check wait times.

The Groovy Groper is the best place on the Peninsula for Fish and Chips, Hamburgers, hand made meat patty whether they be meat, chicken, or fish and serve the best chips ever. The food is cooked to your liking by Daphne,😀 the most pleasant owner of any store I have ever been to, she will ask you any special requirements and make it especially for you. The store is spotless clean and has outdoor tables and chairs for you to dine and look over towards the. beautiful ocean front views. Great prices and spectacular fresh cooked food, you can’t ask for anything better. Has a good selection of other fish and chip store items and also a good selection of cold drinks.
It was ok. Look I’d eat it if I was hungry and there wasn’t any other choices around but it’s Redcliffe and there are six other fish and chip shops in a close radius and I’ve had a lot better. I just thought I’d give this one a shot and I was a bit disappointed. The chips are ok. The fish was ok. Everything was ok… I don’t think I’ll be back and that’s only because there are better fish and chip shops within a 5 minute drive from this fish and chip shop.
Orders were told 30 minutes however was 48 minutes to get the order
Staff were unprofessional the girl and the cook were arguing and swearing at each other
The girl taking orders could have at least got orders prepared out of the fish box and prepare the next order for the cook.
Poor performance overall
No lemon with orders. No salt I feel bad for the cook today that’s for sure.
Served by the most kindest soul who recommended a few options for us. The owner was kind enough to make some salad for me and my friends. Pleasant environment and the fish (grilled barramundi and crumbed cod) chips calamari and salad was delicious! We were all visiting from interstate, so to find this gem made for a good end to our day out!
$45 for 3 pieces of grilled fish , 6 nuggets and handful of chips . The fish was bland and very oily , the chips undercooked asked for chicken salt.. couldn’t taste any .
Lady was nice , but wouldn’t come back.
They should rename it from the groovy groper to the sad sole. The chips were unsalted and tasted like unchanged oil, the fish was thin and very greasy. Very let down
went in to order lunch, rude lady serving us. ordered one meal assumed we didn’t want another one and then was annoyed after we ordered a $50 order. then my brother went and grabbed drinks from the fridge to add to the order and the lady serving accused us of trying to steal when we were grabbing them to put on the counter and was clearly showing our intent to pay.
The place looked very unappealing, the food was terrible. My chips came with no salt, even though I asked for salt, and tasted like they were cooked in old oil also very dry. Also $5.50 for a small handful of chips.
