About
Coco’s By The Lake is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Currimundi, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, with a lakeside outdoor setting that draws regulars back time and again. The venue serves breakfast and lunch through to dinner, with dine-in, takeaway, and delivery all available, making it flexible for a quick bite or a longer sit-down meal.
The signature dish of fish, calamari and chips is the headline act, and it earns its place on the menu. The seafood basket is a popular order, and the burgers have built a loyal following for their size and flavour. Coffee here is excellent and clearly matters to the operation. Prices are reasonable for what you get, and portions are consistently generous.
The outdoor lakeside seating is a real asset. Dogs are welcome, the area offers good shade, and free parking plus wheelchair accessibility make it easy for families and visitors alike. The venue is family-friendly, and the combination of quick, attentive service with a relaxed atmosphere keeps people returning. Locals have been coming here for years and have watched successive owners build on the shop’s strong foundations rather than letting them slip.
For anyone looking for fish and chips near Currimundi or the broader Sunshine Coast area, Coco’s By The Lake offers solid all-round value in a genuinely pleasant spot. Phone ahead for busy periods, or check opening hours below.

We’ve been coming here since 2003, and seen the changeover of ownership just make it better and better. It’s a great spot on our coast, almost a sneaky little hideaway favoured by locals. But Coco’s has served the area well. Now expanded onto the pavement making it bigger and better. The food was good and beautifully presented although with one suggestion…the hash brown was so hard and tasteless, it could be so much nicer if homemade and fresh…But we would still go back, for sure. Great value for money.
We went here based on the recent 5 star reviews. Plenty of tables with a good view of the water. Ordered our food with no issues. After 1/2 hr we realised three tables that ordered after us had received their food but we hadn’t. I went to enquire and was met with total indifference from the young staff. After having to repeat what we had ordered several times the response was “we’ll get it done for you now”. No explanation or apology was forthcoming. When the food finally did arrive it was plentiful, hot and very nice so we cannot fault the food. Still no apology when it was delivered though. Whilst eating (approx 3pm) the staff started to pack up the tables around us (bearing in mind the closing time is stated as 4pm). We felt as if it was an overly subtle hint to hurry up and get gone! The tipping away of the water of the dog bowl next to me with the water running around/under my chair/feet didn’t help the situation or the pests that are ibis birds constantly hovering around in search of food (the birds obviously not the cafes fault but annoying nonetheless) The final reason for this low rated review is that I am writing this at 3am because the decaf latte I ordered was definitely caffeinated. I would suggest that if you want to employ young staff you give them more training on customer care and definitely make sure the orders are correct. I order decaf as I cannot process caffeine!!!!
We waited around for a table, then stood in a long line, which would’ve been fine if the service wasn’t the worst I’ve dealt with in ages. The guy serving us was rude, awkward, and completely unhelpful. After we ordered and paid, he casually told us they were out of the items we chose. No apology, no fix, no suggestions. We weren’t allowed to swap to something comparable without paying extra, and he tried to make us line up again to pay another $3 for their mistake. Service was painfully slow, cutlery wasn’t given even when food was dropped to the table, and there was zero effort to make it right. The waffles weren’t real Belgian waffles, tasted store‑bought, and the food in general was just bad. Unprofessional, unwelcoming, and not worth the money. I’ve never seen customer service this poor. Wouldn’t recommend at all. The cabinets were quite disgusting and looked like they hadn’t been wiped in a week. Facial expressions were unpleasant and unwelcoming, not a smile in sight. As a hospitality worker myself, i was genuinely taken aback by the unprofessional and unwelcoming behaviour and overall atmosphere. I myself experience busy rushes and rude customers, however, it’s seems as though this business cannot maintain basic common customer service. It simply is not that hard to even smile at someone, especially in a hospitality workplace. My friend and I were very disappointed and will not be returning.
A hidden gem of the sunshine coast. With beach views and plenty of shade, you will almost definitely enjoy having breakfast or lunch here.
I had a birthday lunch here and it Coco’s did not disappoint! The burgers are MASSIVE, tasty, and great value. There was plenty of sun, a nice breeze, and plenty of beach flora around.
There’s an occasional ibis bird floating around but unless you’re pedantic it shouldn’t cause you any trouble!
Stunning setting, yummy food and amazing coffee. And you can bring your doggies too.
Great food and better prices!! Spicy chicken burger with onion rings and pickles on top and a massive seafood basket for 1
This is one of my favorites I knew the original.owners that built up a great reputation ( new Zealanders) and the new owners have superseded all expectations of delicious food great staff and one of the best locations. D9nt change a thing your place is amazing.
Lovely art deco building. The cafe is in a perfect position for access to and from the lake. Staff are friendly and food is good, dropped 1 star because the coffee could be better
