About
Fishermans Haul is a well-regarded fish and chip shop in Gympie, Queensland, drawing a loyal crowd with its impressive range of fresh seafood and reliable, friendly service. The menu goes well beyond the basics, featuring an extensive selection of fish fillets alongside whole bugs and crabs, making it a genuine seafood destination rather than a typical suburban chippy. Reef fish, Red Emperor, and cod all feature, and the calamari is a regular highlight too.
The fish and chips are the main drawcard, and regulars return for the well-seasoned chips and quality battered or crumbed fillets. Hamburgers and fish burgers also get strong mentions, so it covers plenty of ground for those who want something other than seafood. Potato cakes round out the classic side offerings. A meal-for-two deal is available and portions are described as generous.
With a solid four-plus stars across a large number of reviews, the shop has clearly earned its following across the Gympie region. Service is consistently praised as quick and helpful, though a wait is common during busy periods, so it pays to arrive with a little patience at the lunch and dinner rush. The location is easy to access, with free parking and wheelchair access available, and outdoor roadside seating means there’s room to sit down and eat on the spot. Kids’ meals are on offer, making it a practical choice for families.

Apparently this is a “medium chips” with an extra serving of “small chips” just looks like a half arsed scoop to me, all for a whopping $33 without the drinks. $7 for a large gravy? ya kidding me.
Service wasn’t good either lady didn’t seem to care, no manners at all. Maybe having a bad day? Will be going to Gympie fish and chips from now on way better.
Spent $63 on lunch. The only thing worth eating is the “salad”. So much oil. Everything wet with grease. Grilled barramundi.. one bite.
Threw it all in the bin. Inedible.
What a variety available here! Great selection of top quality seafood.
We had a “Meal for 2”, it was more than enough for 2 adults. Chips were well seasoned and cooked..Cod was perfect..And the calamari fingers were succulent and cooked perfectly.
And prices are great here.. You won’t be unhappy.
Definitely worth going.
Friendly people serving us, And it really felt like that good old-fashioned service that is hard to come by nowadays.
I had the reef fish battered, potato scallop & some chips. I’ve always loved their fish & chips & this is the first time I’ve had the reef fish. Hands down the best fish I’ve ever tasted. They never disappoint.
An impressive variety of fish fillets. The crumbed Red Emperor was fresh and delicious

This is where the locals go for good fish and chips!
Im giving 3 stars for battered fish and chips, you can see numerous images of overcooked blistering batter. 5 stars for the huge range of fish, bugs and crabs available; Also the crew were excellent. No idea why there’s stars for atmosphere sitting on the roadside.
P.S. my serve over $15 and that’s OK but it was too big to eat
Great burgers, awesome fish & chips. Quick, helpful and friendly service, and easy to access location. Pictured are the hamburger and fish burger. Definitely recommend 👌
