About
Charlie De Cod is one of the most talked-about fish and chip shops in Ipswich, and a strong reputation built across hundreds of reviews makes it easy to see why the locals keep coming back. Fresh, hot food at a fair price is the consistent thread running through what regulars say about this place, along with generous portions that leave nobody feeling short-changed.
The menu leans into classic takeaway seafood done well, with the fish and chips drawing the most attention. Everything is cooked to order, and the quality comes through in the results. The kitchen handles busy periods well, turning out food that is fast without cutting corners, which matters on a packed Saturday night when the queue stretches out the door.
Speaking of queues, a wait is part of the Charlie De Cod experience. The shop does not take reservations, so arriving early is the smart move. Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with outdoor seating on site for those who want to eat in. The venue is family-friendly with a kids’ menu, and wheelchair access is provided throughout. Card and mobile payments are accepted, and free parking is available on-site and along the street.
For anyone searching for honest, well-priced fish and chips near Ipswich, Charlie De Cod is worth adding to the shortlist. Phone ahead during the dinner rush to get a sense of wait times before you head in.

Yum yum yum yum!!!! Who doesn’t love fresh fish and chips at a reasonable price? Get in early, there’s a que for this place and for good reason. Everything is good and fresh and hot. Portions are a good size, far from stingy. We really like this place. It’s clean, the guys cook at an incredible pace and do a great job. Most people do take away but there are tables out front if you want to sit down and enjoy your meal right away. We tried the deep fried mars bar for the first time, heads up, it’s not a full mars bar, it’s the fun size ones.

By popular demand, I visited Charlie De Cod 🐟🍟! So many people recommended this spot, and I can see why – the fish and chips were absolutely fantastic. The food was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Highly recommend for anyone craving great fish and chips in Ipswich!
I started to visit this place 2 years ago. I always ordered cod, prawns and calamari. For some reason recent few months, the calamari is almost half size compared to before. I don’t know the owner has been changed recently….
Lovely fresh fish and seafoods value for money, good size portions and sauces all was beautifully cooked and if its seafood you are thinking of having then Charlie De Cod is where you should go.
You will be pleased you did.
Best fish n chips in Ipswich (moved here in 2025 so we were on the hunt for a new local).
Perfect chip to chicken salt ratio every time.
Whiting is always yummy. Traditional pineapple fritters are amazing. Staff are super nice. Always busy on a Friday night but wait times are never too long.
Food was fast, well priced and delicious. They were busy and did a great job of managing the volume on a Saturday night. Can’t go wrong, support local!!!
Used to be my #1 fish and chip spot with my dad as I only see him sundays, however come to find out you guys are closed sundays now.. what a shame considering you guys are the only good fish and chip shop around💔
Docking a star for the fact this isn’t updated online either?? Big drive for nothing. Dads real upset.
Best seafood in Ipswich. Almost impossible to eat there because people sitting at tables while waiting for order. Needs about 10 stools inside shop for people waiting for orders
