About
Charis Seafoods is a well-known fish and chip shop in Labrador, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, drawing families, locals and tourists in steady numbers across lunch and dinner. The menu centres on fresh seafood sourced from local suppliers, with battered fish and chips as the signature offering. Regulars also favour the grilled prawns and seafood platters, and the battered oysters and mussels get a notable following of their own.
The battered fish here has earned a strong reputation for a reason. The coating comes out crisp and light, while the fish inside stays soft, flaky and genuinely fresh rather than the frozen variety. Chips arrive crunchy on the outside and fluffy through the middle, and portions are generous enough that a combo meal comfortably feeds a family. Value for money is a consistent theme, with platters sized to satisfy a crowd without breaking the budget.
Charis Seafoods sits alongside the Broadwater, and outdoor seating lets diners enjoy the view while they eat. A playground on-site and a family-friendly atmosphere make it a practical choice for parents with young children. Both dine-in and takeaway are available, and free parking keeps things simple. The shop does get busy, particularly at lunchtime, so a wait should be expected during peak periods. No reservations are taken, so arriving a little early is a good idea.
Phone ahead for takeaway orders during the dinner rush, or check opening hours before making the trip.

The batter fish fillet was super yummy and really fresh — definitely didn’t taste like frozen fish. The texture was soft and flaky, similar to trout. We also had battered fresh oysters and mussels, which were so good. Plus, we bought half a kilo of tiger prawns and four Moreton Bay bugs — everything was super fresh. Highly recommend this seafood and fish & chips shop! 🐟🍤
The fish and chips are pretty good. The fish is always fresh, and the chips are crunchy on the outside and soft on the middle.
Beautiful Broadwater views and a great little beach make for the perfect setting.
There’s a huge selection of fresh local seafood for those who prefer to cook at home.
An added bonus is the daily pelican feeding 1:30 pm).
Well worth a visit.
Great value for money. And you get to sit by the beach. We bought the $55 dollar combo and it was more than enough for 2 adults and 3 hungry kids. Staff are lovely and friendly. Even thou they were busy we did not wait very long. Also fresh fish available to eat.
Not bad, not great. Location tho – quite a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Fish & chips, fish cocktails, potato scallops & a pineapple fritter.
Hmmm. I’ve had better. But I’ve also had worse. I would get the fish & chips again but might try grilled, altho the batter was crispy and it wasn’t too oily.
The pineapple fritter – no.
The potato scallops were dry. I do love a good potato scallop but these do not rank at all. They’re worth a mention only to recommend that you don’t get them.
The location tho… the park has a number of picnic tables, the water is right there and it’s a very pleasant experience to enjoy your fish & chips…
Great variety of sea food, cooked ones are ok, not amazing, but the staff was so nice and kind and helpful, very pleasant.
Prices of fresh fish is good, the place is so big and got fresh sea food
Nice outdoor area on the beach to relax and enjoy the ocean breeze.
Charis Seafood is absolutely top-tier! Fresh, perfectly cooked seafood every time, with generous portions and unbeatable value. Their oysters are a must-try, super fresh, plump, and full of flavour. The quality is consistent, the flavours bold, and the location makes it super convenient. Hands down my go-to spot whenever I’m craving seafood 😉
Ordered bunch of fried combos at first (love the fish and chips), and find out boiled seafoods are worth a try. Boiled shrimp is really fresh and sweet.
By the shop, there’s lagoon, park, slides and shades. Great place to spend time with kids.
They feed pelicans at 13:30.
I have traveled a lot around Australia and I can honestly say fresh seafood at this location is amazing. Called in today and bought a mud crab as I always do when I come to the Gold Coast. Also purchased some Tasmanian oysters (that were a meal on their own) and let me say the oysters and crab were amazing. Crab was so sweet and oysters nice and juicy. Added some prawns, bugs and Yarra Valley Caviar to seal the deal. Fabulous. Can’t wait to return. Yum
