About
Seafood Lovers Cafe sits right on the Margate beachfront, offering dine-in and takeaway with outdoor seating that puts you directly beside the water. The venue runs across breakfast, lunch, and dinner, making it one of the more flexible spots for fish and chips on the Redcliffe Peninsula.
The menu leads with fresh fish and chips as the signature, and regulars speak highly of the generous fish portions and crisp, freshly cooked chips. The sauces draw their own fans, and the iced coffee is a popular order alongside the food. More recently, freshly baked pastries have been added to the morning lineup, a welcome addition for early visitors. A kids’ menu and catering options mean Seafood Lovers Cafe suits family outings as well as larger gatherings.
Wheelchair access and free parking make the venue easy to reach, and counter service keeps things straightforward. That said, it is worth knowing that wait times during busy periods can stretch to 45 minutes or more, so coming with a relaxed attitude helps. Some diners have also noted that pricing can feel steep relative to portion size, so expectations are best set accordingly.
For families in Margate or visitors making their way along the Peninsula in search of a fish and chip shop with a genuine waterfront setting, Seafood Lovers Cafe offers a solid option with decent reviews behind it. Phone ahead during dinner service to get an idea of current wait times.

Came here with my friends we had a kid who looked maybe 10-12 serving us, as well as doing coffees and more. The lady at the back was quite rude to him when he was the only one really working at the front. Food was okay, the kid was lovely though.
Edit: you have me confused with someone else. I did not order avocado, we ordered drinks and 3x seafood sticks. And the young boy gave fabulous service. It was the older boy who interrupted us while being served who was the one with terrible service, clicking his fingers at us, not listening and then yelling at the other customer that had been waiting for his order. It was not busy at all. And even if it was, there is no excuse to talk to anyone the way he did. Disgusting behaviour! An even more disgusting response to this review!
Rude to not only me and my family. But also yelling at customers telling them to stay home if they can’t afford to eat here.
We love coming here for their beautiful coffee overlooking the beach and stoked they are now doing pastries in the morning! Baked fresh daily which is so rare on the Peninsula 🥐 lovely ladies and great service
Chips are nice and fresh. The fish is huge. The sauce is delicious. The iced coffee is awesome. The service goes beyond awesome when the two young fellas walk across the road to give a guy his fish and chips . Staff are friendly and pleasant to talk too. There’s parking in a paddock across the road from the beach or there is just street parking easy to get a wheelchair in because there’s ramps on the road side on the gutter. The pigeons are a pain in the arse. Don’t feed the pigeons they just keep coming back. Ten stars Boys ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ordered lunch for the family & added 2 pieces of fish and 3 drinks to the order. To my surprise the bill was over $100.
It was also an extra $2 per fish piece to have them battered😳
On receipt of our order I was told that the food was the best in
town. Opened the bags & found the fish to have overcooked(heated) batter on the outside & still undercooked batter around the fish.
I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone as they over promise and under deliver.
The portion size was ok.
As an English man living here and Fish and chips being our native dish, id like to think i know a thing or two about a good one.
Best bit of fish and chips ive had in over 3 years!
On the beach which makes it taste better.
Highly recommend.
I’ve been going to Sea Food Loves for years, over the years it’s had several owners. Last Wednesday I went in and ordered my usual, fish and chips, I paid $18.50. When I asked for it to be battered they asked for an extra $2. I’ve never had anything like that happen to me anywhere. Today, Wednesday, I went back and ordered my usual. When I opened the tray I found two tiny pieces about four fingers long and two fingers wide, and as thin as a cracker. So I went back and complained because it looked like a children’s portion! Yes, there were plenty of fries, but I was very dissatisfied. I felt cheated and frustrated. The service was terrible. When I asked for a change, they told me I had to pay again. I was furious because I’ve never experienced anything like this anywhere. I was shocked because last week I had a good-sized fish, more or less in line with the price, although thin and dry. I was very disappointed, so the good experiences I had for years at that same place with other owners are gone. It’s definitely not worth eating there with that lack of respect for the customer.
Not happy to just serve fish & chips, they have now tried to encroach on the cafe business next door – even when they’re trading We ordered 2 coffees & some pastries. We were the only customers at the time, but after waiting 12 minutes & no-one had even started to make our coffees when we went in to enquire what the hold up was. By then there was a queue of people placing orders of the only server, (they are obviously too tight to put on adequate serving staff, however they saw fit to have but 2 staff members moving tables etc, which was not necessary at the time! ) All these other orders of people who arrived well after us were jbeing taken ahead of our coffees being made. Whilst waiting we witnessed the woman in the kitchen inform a male waiter he’d taken the order of pastries to the wrong table. 5 mins after wrongly delivering them, he retrieved them & was going to redeliver to our table. I pointed out this was against safe food handling principles & requested fresh pastries. They refused, so we requested a refund & they wasted 4 pastries & 2 coffees. Bad customer service not to give fresh pastries as they could not guarantee the integrity of their product they mistakenly delivered & left on another table. They lost a $25 order. Told them we won’t be back, to which they retorted we’d be missing out on the best fish & chips! Think with that lack of safe food handling & non customer focused service we can do far better!
