About
The Fish Bowl is a casual fish and chip shop in Moffat Beach, Queensland, offering dine-in and takeaway with outdoor seating and kerbside pickup available. The menu covers the classics, with battered fish and chips as the signature, alongside options like cod, sweetlip, barramundi, calamari, and sea scallops. A kids’ menu makes it a practical stop for families passing through the area.
Opinions on the food are genuinely divided. On a good visit, the fish arrives in fresh, well-seasoned batter with chips that have clearly been packed with a bit of care. Regulars point to the crumbed barramundi and battered sweetlip as highlights, and the burgers and gravy have their supporters too. On less consistent visits, some have noted over-salted food, calamari cooked past its best, and batter that has seen better days. The seafood basket is a popular order, though experiences with it have varied.
The shop has a no-frills setup and is open for lunch and dinner. For anyone in the Moffat Beach area looking for a straightforward feed at a reasonable price, it can deliver on its day. Phone ahead during busy periods to keep wait times manageable.

Every time we go to Moffatt, we grab some fish and chips from the Fish Bowl, grab our picnic rug and eat it at the beach.
The set up isn’t fancy. It’s pretty raw. The food is well priced.
We got a meal for 2 people and it’s pretty good for what we paid.
If you want a fancy place with fancy staff, there’s a few places down at Caloundra. If you want reasonable fish and chips for a good price and you don’t mind the old school service, then I’d come here.
Will be back next time we go to Moffatt.
Unfortunately this place was a fail, lets start with a very arrogant service, the same guy who cooks your food is the guy who gets your order.
burguer bun was warm-up in the microwave, as can see in the photo looks days from that day we have.
From all the order we did the only one could save a little but was the kids nuggets, but the amount of salt put in the nuggets was totally unnecessary and also was not asked for.
we did look for takeways around the beach and this place appear as the cheap one, but after try, was a wrong decision. Unfortunately you get what you pay for, and sometimes do not worth.
If you want to find a terrible attitude serving you a terribly horrifying amount of salt on your food then this is the perfect place for you. The calamari doesn’t even look like calamari..it looks more of a crumbed chinese garter 🙄
The worse! Stay away!! The older gentleman was sitting in the back. We asked if he was open and got no response besides him walking up to the front, so we took that as a yes. Ordered two grilled snappers and chips. The fish was not grilled, but steamed in aluminum foil. My guess frozen did to the amount of water it was sitting in one we opened the foil. No flavor what ever and was rubbery. The chips also had no flavor but very salty. Not sure how he pulled that off. Will never return. We tossed it and went to the place next to Moffatt Brewery. Just disgusting and rude service. Places like this don’t deserve even 1 star.
This seafood basket for 2 cost $42. There’s 2 pieces of fish, but the crumb was dry. Oil needs to be changed.
The best fish and chips I’ve had in years. We had cod, sweetlip battered, and barramundi crumbed, sea scallops, chips. All sensational, packed with care to ensure they didn’t suffer from steam or crowding. The Barra brought myself and a friend back from disliking it as the crumb was a perfect accompaniment. Batter fresh, crisp fluffy, no stodge. Chips perf. Thank you for the perfect holiday fish, on a Monday night no less ❤️❤️❤️
Not the friendliest customer service but thought we’d give it a go.
Chips were fine, calamari was overcooked pieces more like little crispy fish fingers, potato scallops were literally inedible a few of them were just entirely batter with no actual potato inside we had to throw them out. As locals with family visiting from interstate we felt embarrassed that this is the quality of fish and chips that Moffs offers.
Will absolutely avoid in future.
As described by others…
I thought to myself too, how bad could it be?
It’s not disgusting or pretending to be something else. So that’s a plus…
However, it’s lazy.
If you just want a large chips for $12 and don’t care if they mistake chicken salt for real salt, you’ll be pretty happy. It’s not bad or un-generous portions.
It’s run by what appear to be a Husband and wife that don’t like the world… Or, possibly, each other. Despite good English, friendliness is not something on offer.
We had a few Pluto Pups, as was scared by the fish reviews. It’s frozen junk. Over Cooked and undercooked at the same time.
Others unhappy too… Or just ordering chips.
Meanwhile yesterday I drove 25min for an Authentic Australian hamburger by some old lady who made it with love.
If I was across the road from this place, I would not return for anything but perhaps $5 of chips.
FYI.
If you run one of these shops. Hand cut the chips. Buy your own fish and batter it. Pay attention to customers.
Smile Occasionally, authenticity.
Not hard to be a rockstar.
