About
RayJays Fish & Chips is a well-regarded fish and chip shop on the Sunshine Coast, drawing a steady crowd of locals and visitors to Mooloolaba for generous serves and consistently fresh cooking. The chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy through the middle, and the fish, including battered barramundi and calamari, is cooked to order with a light, golden batter. The signature chips and calamari deal is a popular choice, and potato cakes round out the classics for anyone after a proper feed.
The setup lends itself to relaxed dining, with outdoor tables on a grass verge and a family-friendly atmosphere that works well for groups of all sizes. Live entertainment has been known to run on weekend evenings, adding to the laid-back feel. Service is notably quick and the staff are friendly, which makes a real difference during the busy lunch and dinner periods, particularly on weekends.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, and the menu covers enough ground to keep everyone happy, from the younger kids through to those after something a bit more substantial. Portion sizes lean generous, and the variety on offer is broad. The shop is accessible for wheelchair users, and the whole experience is straightforward and unpretentious.
RayJays has built a solid reputation among Sunshine Coast fish and chip shops, with well over four hundred reviews and a consistent track record for quality. Phone ahead during busy weekend sessions to keep wait times down.

Fish and chips done right – Lovely food. Lovely service. Lovely atmosphere. The food here is fresh as, The batter used is amazing and the price is great. Tables scattered around the grass verge outside and often have live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. Byo or grab something to drink from the BWS next door. A hidden gem on the Sunshine coast!
Lovely place, plenty of seating.
Got a large chips with a battered barra and some potato scallops. Chips were amazing but the barra was probably one of the best I’ve had. Super crisp and just melted in my mouth. The potato scallops were just as good, hard crispy outside with a well cooked potato middle. Staff were great. They even came outside and gave me my food while I sat down. I was expecting my name to be yelled out but it was a pleasant surprise to see the cook hand deliver my food. Great place.
So we were looking for a local style fish and chip shop and we found Ray Jays, so I’m glad we did. Really enjoyed the setup with a couple of tables outside and a live band playing. Not sure if this was the norm for a Saturday night. But it really made the Atmosphere. The service and food was great too. Even that the place was a little busy (What I think is a good sign). Definitely glad that we come here, so relaxing. 100% I will come back here. my recommendation is to try the Calamari. 😇😇😇
A pleasant suburban take away shop. The food is priced at the upper end. If you are going to charge maximum price maybe include a cardboard container for chips and place the order in a plastic bag? Menu included in photos.
After a long journey from Scotland via Japan, this was out first meal located close to our villa. Food was fresh, service was quick and portion sizes very generous. Will definitely be back as the variation of menu options was vast with no compromise to quality or service. Highly recommend if your in the area.
Ray Jay’s Fish & Chips is the real deal.
Freshest fish you’ll find on the Sunshine Coast, cooked perfectly every time. The service is genuinely warm and fast, and the chips? Absolute weapons — crispy, fluffy, and honestly hard to stop eating.
No hype, no gimmicks, just top-tier fish and chips done right.
If you’re in Mooloolaba or anywhere on the Sunshine Coast and you miss this little secret spot, that’s on you. Don’t make that mistake.
Always busy when i come which only shows you are doing something right
Credit to all the young ones who work here. Great to see young ones working hard. Service is always great and friendly
Food is always good but noticeably and understandable after weekend i notice its abit oily and burnt abit
Mature woman working in kitchen is a legend always giving direction and helping out where needed
Only thing i would suggest is abit more communication on wait times ( respectfuly) im always happy waiting but hear alot of people become inpaitent
Great work ray jays see you again !
Went to Rayjays this afternoon for a bite to eat after a long day of driving up from Byron bay. The young lady who served me was beyond lovely I believe her name being Sydney at least that was the name on my reciept. Definitely top tier service. I got the chips and calamari deal and it was cooked to perfection. She is fabulous and the food was even more. Will definitely recommend to any of my friends from home if they’re up this way. Thankyou Rayjays 🫶
