About
Codmother is a no-frills fish and chip shop in Narangba, Queensland, and it delivers exactly what a good local chippy should. The chips are a particular highlight, known for that satisfying combination of a crunchy exterior and a dense, fluffy potato centre. Generous serving sizes mean nobody walks away hungry, and the fish is consistently fresh and flaky, cooked well enough to remind you why this style of food has such a loyal following.
Beyond the classic fish and chips, the menu covers plenty of ground. The burgers draw genuine praise from regulars who take their patties seriously, and the calamari, dim sims, potato cakes, and seafood sticks all get a mention as solid supporting acts. Fresh prawn cutlets are another option worth noting. It is an old-school chippy at heart, but one that gets the fundamentals right every time.
Consistency is something the team at Codmother is known for, which matters more than it might sound. A fish and chip shop that delivers quality on one visit and disappointment on the next loses regulars fast. That is not a concern here. The staff are friendly, service moves quickly, and the relaxed atmosphere suits families well. There is a kids menu, outdoor seating, and wheelchair access, and the shop accepts card and mobile payments for convenience.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available. Open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner, with Monday dinner service from late afternoon. Phone ahead during the busy dinner period if you want to avoid a wait.

We have been coming to cod mother for years. Never going back, this is a serve of chips $10 worth. This would have to be absolutely disgusting in size.
$8 of chips. What a joke. Waited 30 minutes for very basic small meal tonight.
Fish is always fresh and flakey. Fresh prawn cutlets are great. Chips are really good.
The ladies that run the place are lovely.
Old school chippy.
No frills, no fuss just fish.
Never again – only ever got chips from here for the past 10 years – had fish tonight and I feel like I need to vomit – Im not sure if it’s the grease. Also too expensive for what it is. But that’s the price of fish these days anywhere Back to grilling my own fish I guess
One thing about Codmother, is that they’re consistent….consistently good! There’s nothing worse than going to a fish and chip shop and sometimes they’re great and other times disappointing. These ladies have got it down pat with the timing of the fry. Chips always have a fair mix of super crunchy chips and also nice dense potato filled suckers. Seafood sticks are cooked well, fish is always nice (not sure what it is, but seems to have good meat, good size and rarely a bone). Calamari is tender and chicken salt a plenty!
If you’re chasing a fish and chip shop with consistent, classic fish and chips, give these ladies a go!
Images are the $8 chips on two different occasions, a year apart.
Good for a fix of fried food or burgers, we enjoyed their potato scallops this time too. Price has gone up for every place so yes a Lg chips will set you back over $10 but it’s how it is these days. Service is always fun & friendly.
I am the hamburger man and I know a great burger when I get one. This place rocks on the burger front. Finally a place that appeases my stomach.
Can’t fault this place. Both for fish, chips and burgers, all of which are top tier. We were hesitant because of the 3.8 stars but do not let that fool you. This place is 5/5 every day. Amazing quality, quantity and selection. Keep up the good work!
