Regular ol’ fish and chips at a reasonable price. Had the ‘Single pack’ which was decently priced at $12, plus a pineapple fritter for $2. Pack included fish (cod) which was cooked nicely, chips were real good (chicken salt 🤤) but I felt the portion was slightly small, and the prawn cutlet was nice. Calamari was a bit underwhelming but I’ve had some awesome alternatives elsewhere so I guess my expectations were high. The overall meal size was perfect for me, but some people may find it small (but you can always add to it!). Also, service was quick.
Tasteless, dry, disappointing. Don’t do it.
I ordered via the website two pieces of battered Snapper, a large chips with chicken salt, and a side of coleslaw. A simple, humble dream. What I received felt more like a culinary prank.
The fish: one battered, one crumbed, not what I ordered. Neither edible without the emotional support of the addition of a significant slathering of a saucy condiment. Both pieces managed to achieve the impossible trifecta of being dry, soggy, and tasteless all at once, a true textural paradox. I’d also question whether it was actually Snapper.
The chips were clearly shy about seasoning, as only one or two grains of chicken salt dared to make an appearance. They were dry, sad, and seemingly existentially confused about whether they wanted to be eaten or quietly composted.
The coleslaw arrived in a portion so tiny I thought it was a sample, but no, I paid for that too. Drowning in store-bought dressing, it looked like it was trying to forget it was ever cabbage.
To top it off, the order was wrong and late! Impressive really, given how much time they had to underwhelm me.
For $36 I didn’t get dinner, I got a life lesson.
We’ve eaten here twice since the new owners took over and I’m surprised by the other reviews. Both were late night orders and the fish and chips were great! The batter was perfect, the scallops and chips were really good too. The medium chips and one piece of Snapper was enough for two of us. I’d give it a go before going off the reviews slamming this place.
My only feedback for the new owners is for the menu to be up on the wall somewhere. There’s currently only one on the counter right where you order so it makes it awkward when you can’t see the menu if someone else is also making their decision.
Most amazing hot chips with salt great fish and the kebabs and hsp pack are a 10/10 especially the hot sauce , his classic burger is also a budget option but sooo good have to try if you come past, just became a local and will be my first option every time.
The sad thing is that the food is pretty good.
The bad thing is that when all of it is not actually delivered, Red Hill Seafood takes no responsibility for it.
Don’t take the risk.
Go to Ocean Seafood.
They take responsibility.
Ordered the family pack, was really quick and polite service. Food was really yummy, great value for money, definitely in our top 3 Brisbane fish and chips shops.
Love the snapper here and there’s always a generous heaping of chicken salt for the chips. I can definitely recommend the fried pineapple too!
The new owners have really delivered on quality food and service. The chips were on point, fish beautifully battered and savs in batter amazing. Sam on the front was friendly and had a lovely energy. Will definitely be back.
