About
Yabbey Road is a casual, cheerful fish and chip shop in Redcliffe that draws a broad crowd, from families and tourists through to uni students looking for a solid feed. The relaxed, upbeat atmosphere keeps things lively, and the outdoor seating makes it a comfortable spot to sit down and enjoy a meal rather than just grabbing a quick takeaway.
The menu leans into proper British-style fish and chips, with battered cod that regulars praise for its flaky texture and light, crunchy batter that avoids the heavy greasiness that can let other shops down. The chips are a consistent highlight, and the shop serves them with the classics: malt vinegar, salt, and tartar sauce. Gluten-free options are available, and there’s a kids’ menu that makes it a practical choice for families. Dogs are welcome, so four-legged members of the family aren’t left out either.
With well over two thousand ratings and a solid four-plus star reputation, Yabbey Road has clearly earned its place among the well-regarded fish and chip shops on the Redcliffe dining scene. The pricing is noted as reasonable, and the staff are described as friendly, which goes a long way toward making the experience feel welcoming for both first-timers and weekly regulars alike.
Dine-in and takeaway are both available, with free parking on site. Phone ahead during busy dinner service to keep the wait manageable.

This place serves good old-fashioned British-style fish and chips, complete with malt vinegar, salt, and tartar sauce. We ordered the battered cod, which was super flaky and perfectly cooked—not oily at all. The chips were amazing, and the mushy peas, calamari, and prawns were all cooked to perfection, just as you’d hope for.
Everything came wrapped in paper bags, adding to the casual, hearty experience, and I absolutely loved it. They also have a great selection of beer and other drinks to choose from. The prices are reasonable, and the quality of the food, service, and staff was excellent. If you’re by the sea and craving authentic British fish and chips, this is the place to go. Well done to the team!
Tucked along a lively street in Redcliffe, this old-school fish and chips shop is buzzing with charm and the cheerful hum of upbeat music that never seems to stop. It’s the kind of place that locals keep coming back to — not just for the nostalgia, but because the food hits the spot every time.
The fish is always freshly fried, golden and crisp on the outside, with tender, flaky goodness inside. Chips are piping hot and generously portioned, and the best part? The prices are wonderfully down-to-earth. Even when there’s a crowd (and there often is), it’s worth the short wait — the team keeps things moving, and you can tell they know their way around a fryer.
Seating is simple, with a few shared tables out front. If you can’t snag a spot, there are benches nearby where you can enjoy your meal while soaking in the laid-back coastal vibe. It’s a slice of classic seaside Australia — no fuss, just good food and good energy. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner after a beach walk, and a must-try if you’re after an authentic local feed in Redcliffe.
Great Chippy! The battered code was delicious and perfect crunchy batter. Loved the Beatles playing in the background while soaking up the sea air. GF available and kids meal options. Well priced and friendly staff.
We have been here so many times. Because we love it so much we return time and time again. My grandson and I went there last night he had never been. I talked it up how fantastic it was.
Very disappointing. The food was quick to come out but tasted of nothing. The salt and vinegar were the nicest part of the meal. Very bland cardboard would’ve tasted the same. There was about 5 other groups of people that were sitting out the front eating. Then at around 7 pm they shut the roller doors and said they were closing. A man said why are you closing the woman said oh we’re not busy tonight. They then started to pack everything up around us while we were eating. It was like we’ve had your money now get out.
I try to be objective, genuinely I do.
The chips here are first class. They have some of the best chips I’ve had in Queensland. They tasted so good, salted perfectly, not too oily. Brilliant. For chips alone I’d give 5 stars however…
I also had their cod. This was my biggest mistake.
I wish I could say otherwise given how good their chips were.
Their cod, or maybe the oil it was cooked in, had me sick and vomiting in the afternoon.
It was a miserable experience and despite their chips being sensational I won’t be returning. Seafood is dangerous to play around with and I was left ill.
I cannot recommend to anyone. I’m sorry.
If you like oil with your meal this is the place to come.
Chips were okay,.nothing great but at least edible.
Calamari was cooked to perfection, tender as but with each bite was a delicious taste of oil.
Was really looking forward to my pineapple fritter, but urgh….more oil.
Sorry guys, check what’s going on in the kitchen.
Never again.
Love this little shop we try & make it at leased once a week great fish & chips pity we cant hear there music because the shop next door has the music so loud it actually spoils the mood
The sea scallops & the crumbed barramundi were amazing, for those reading people’s reviews on being greasy. I’ve eaten here twice in a week because it’s just that good, everything is perfectly cooked & not greasy at all. Just dam delicious
