About
The Funky Fish Inn is a casual fish and chip shop in Runaway Bay, Queensland, offering dine-in, takeaway, and delivery across brunch, lunch, and dinner service. The venue is family friendly, wheelchair-accessible throughout, and has free parking and outdoor seating on hand, making it a practical choice for a relaxed meal out.
The menu covers a solid range of the classics. Hoki and flake have drawn plenty of praise, with the batter and chips earning particular mention from first-timers. Potato cakes and a deep-fried Mars Bar also feature, along with burgers that have impressed a fair few regulars. Portion sizes lean generous, and the staff are often noted for being warm and accommodating.
Consistency has varied across visits, and freshness of fish can depend on the day, so it pays to ask what’s come in recently. That said, when the kitchen is on, the results speak for themselves. The shop accepts card and mobile payments and does not take reservations, so walk-ins are welcome.
A solid option for families or solo diners looking for fish and chips in the Runaway Bay area. Phone ahead during busy dinner service to save waiting.

I placed my order over the phone, 2 serves of calamari and serve of chips, picked up 7.40pm. Calamari cooked just right, chips good too. Will try cheap Tuesday fish and chips next time
First visit great Fish and plenty of it! Friendly staff very impressed by quality and portion size! Second visit very average piece of fish, I asked for a specific fish type and looks like I got something far from fresh. I’m sure if you ask what’s fresh you won’t be disappointed…
Cheap… like $1 potato scallops and $7.90 barramundi fillet. $2.50 slush puppies.
Friendly service.
Breadcrumbs unusual.
We last visited the Funky Fish Inn in mid 2017 when we spent a couple of months on the coast. We loved it then and were keen to see how the new management would be going – now that we’re back on the coast due to Covid-19. We visited about a month ago and were so happy to meet the new owner Bianca and sample their $8 special Fish & Chips. Fab. Just Fab. Took it down to Paradise Point and ate it with blue skies, sunshine and water lapping nearby. We went back again today as we were in the neighbourhood and like to check a place out a couple of times for consistency. Once more – just perfect. Lovely, big bit of fish – covered half our plate and a generous serve of chips. This time we carted the serves home, laid them in an oven tray and warmed them up 6 hours later for dinner. Still yummo. Fish was fresh, nice large, well formed flakes – I recall Bianca saying Dory (but I’m not 100% sure). Anyway, Fast, Fresh, Fab – what more could you ask for in a Fish & Chippy… And a Fair Price. We’ll be back.
Sooo good omg best burger I’ve had in forever. Sweetest lady behind the counter, super friendly and was more than happy to cook the steak for less time for me. Happy days!
First time customers and couldn’t be happier (or fuller!). Hoki and flake were superb and melted in our mouths. Batter was perfect. Chips & potato cakes were seriously amazing. And the girl child gave two thumbs up for the deep fried Mars bar! 🙄. Definitely will return.
Dim sims undercooked, potato scallops dry and chewy, flake was more like a kids serve( very small).
Really disappointed with the whole meal.
Best Flake and Chips I’ve had in a long time. Perfect chip’s with chicken salt, crunchy and flakey batter and the piece of flake was juicy, tender and fresh. I’d recommend this Fish n chips shop!!
