About
The Hangi Pit Springfield brings a distinct flavour to the Springfield fish and chip scene, drawing steady crowds with a menu that blends classic takeaway staples with a few less common offerings. Hoki fish and squid rings sit alongside potato fritters, crab sticks, and the crowd-pleasing garlic chips, while a Kiwi hotdog and fried bread hint at the shop’s Pacific-influenced character. The battered mussels are another point of difference you won’t find at most Queensland fish and chip shops.
The kitchen fries in lard rather than oil, and regulars reckon it makes a genuine difference to anything that comes out of the deep fryer. Portions are served fresh and hot, and the pricing keeps the place busy throughout the day. The queue can build quickly during peak periods, so arriving early or ordering outside the dinner rush is a practical tip. The shop is open from mid-morning through to the early evening across the week.
The venue suits families well, with a kids’ menu, outdoor seating, and accessible car park and entrance for wheelchair users. Both dine-in and takeaway are available, and free parking is on hand in the lot and on the street. Credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments are all accepted.
Worth a visit for anyone in the Springfield area after something a bit different from the standard fish and chips lineup. Phone ahead during busy periods to check wait times.

Garlic chips. Hoki fish. Crab sticks. Battered mussels and fried bread. Everything was delicious at first, but then we got full. And everything felt and tasted extra greasy. Best advice, stop eating when full. Otherwise, fish 8/10. Battered mussels 10/10 Yum as. Crab sticks 10/10 just like at home. Garlic chips 6/10 Garlic butter plopped on top of freshly cooked chips. Leave this closed for a few minutes so the butter melts. We were hungry, we didn’t wait so it wasn’t melted. It had a marge texture. Not butter. Fried bread 7/10 needed a little longer cooking, and had no sweet in it at all, like the fry bread at hangi pit Springwood. Over-all a good Kai. $32 for what we got. That’s actually decently priced.
Served Fresh and hot with great service, great pricing and overall a farken great meal 🤙🏼
I waited for nearly 30mins for my order and the weather was steaming today. The queue of people waiting in their cars, in the shop, outside the shop was epic. I ordered the steak and egg burger for the first time and I tell you what… that 30min wait was so bloody worth it! That burger was deeeelish and as usual, the hot chips, fish, hot dogs and hamburger were cooked to perfection. If you want good consistent food whānau… I promise the wait is worth it 🖤🤍❤️
Usually, the Hangi Pit in Coomera is a really great feed but today, with the high school kids working through the holidays saturated in superiority complexes and bad attitudes, once again, the service was appalling. I did not receive a number and after waiting for 30mins, asked about the order. It had been sitting on the counter for so long that when I picked it up the paper disintegrated. I asked them to make me a fresh feed- which they agreed to and apologised for. She then went out the back, waited an acceptable time and bought me back the same cold greasy mess – just with fresh wrapping. Good on You. Big effort.
Honestly never write reviews but today was such a joke I couldn’t keep quiet.
Love it. Best burgers and they use lard not oil. Anything deep fried taste better there. Not impressed with ignoring the phone after 6 though. I understand u close at 7 but at least answer and explain yourself. Or have a voice mail so when you don’t accept phone orders u turn the phone off and people are politely told no orders are excepted after 6 to avoid late pick ups or whatever. Your just missing out on orders
Ordered at 4:55pm and was told it would be 20 minutes then at 5:35pm told another 5 mins. Got our order at 5:45pm. So 50 minutes for 5 basic menu items !
I appreciate that you get busy but when you have staff worrying more about talking to each other and not interacting with customers more then it shows a lack of care and understanding for the customer!
I won’t be recommending again and won’t be back !
So disappointed!
DO BETTER !!!
Wow if I could give this place 0 stars I would. How disappointing. We’re kiwis looking for a taste of home. We’ve been here before & tried their rawfish & fried bread. Was average but we wanted to give them them the benefit of the doubt so we returned a few months later. Returning was our mistake. We spent $111. The food was below average & that’s being nice. Majority of the food was sadly overcooked. The fish was so dry I had to keep dipping the flesh into tartare sauce. The tartare sauce was nice. Ordered steak burgers with $4 for extra meat. No extra meat in sight. Steak was tough. The burger buns were burnt. That’s crazy. The food was so underwhelming I didn’t even take photos. The best thing was probably the squid rings & to be honest they were just average. Don’t get me started on the rawfish. Js tasted like cream with fish & a few capsicum & 1 or 2 tomato pieces with no seasoning. We tried to salvage it by adding a little water, lemon & salt. We shouldn’t have to do that. Some of the fried bread was undercooked. Bruh. Maybe it was js an off day for them? Who knows. But will not return. Do not recommend.
Burgers are cheap and tasteless and staff need to learn professional courtesy on the phone. I was greeted with ” what do ya want” in a gruff I hate my job voice. Will not return!
