About
Maddigan’s Seafood has built a strong reputation in Torquay, Queensland, drawing steady crowds for its fresh fish and well-made chips. The menu leads with flake and fish bites as the signature offering, and barramundi also features alongside classics like chiko rolls, dim sims, hamburgers, chicken burgers, and fish burgers. Portion sizes are notably generous, and regulars often find themselves with food to spare.
The fish is sourced from local fishermen, and the staff are genuinely knowledgeable about what they’re serving. They’ll walk first-timers through the local varieties and even let guests sample before deciding, which makes ordering a pleasure rather than a guessing game. That kind of personal touch keeps people coming back, with many regulars returning again and again since first discovering the shop.
Maddigan’s is set up for both dine-in and takeaway, with outdoor seating and views of the esplanade. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, and a kids’ menu makes it a solid family-friendly option for lunch or dinner. Pricing sits in the moderate range, so it’s accessible without feeling like a compromise on quality. The shop is well-rated across a large number of visits, which says plenty about consistency. A queue is common, particularly at peak times, so arriving a little early or phoning ahead is a smart move.

The staff were the cherry on top. They were very nice and educated us on the local seafood. They catered to us and let us try different fish and their specialties. Great people making classic fish and chips.
Fine fish and chips! The fish was tasty, but unfortunately you have to ask for spoon and fork. Later on I saw others walking away with some sauce to be enjoyed with the fish. Apparently I had to ask for that too. The chips could have been a bit more crispy too. Overall a fine dinner especially considering the relative price.
Been here 3 times now since moving to the Bay. Hands down the BEST fish n chips in the region. Always extra food left over too. Youve got me hooked!!

Recently renovated shop front makes viewing before ordering a breeze. We always get our cooked muddies from here, they are cooked to perfection everytime, love that they are putting the price on the shell now, makes deciding how many to get affordable.
Great food and great flavour! We tried the flake, fish bites and they were so delicious—fresh, tasty, and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend! My family will be back from Melbourne to have fish and chips again!! Thank you!!
We phoned and placed an order.
Food (fish, chips, salad) was very good. Good portion sizes and tasty.
BUT: They may take your order by phone but who knows what they do with it. They do nothing about your order until you arrive at the shop. So why bother with accepting phone orders? The place is busy (good) but not well organised.
I know it’s Hervey Bay and we all have time on our hands but this goes beyond the we don’t care level of service.
We are staying at the white crest and asked reception if there are any decent fish and chips around. Absolutely! Next door was the response.
One serving of crumbed cod and chips and another of salmon, chips and salad for under $30 and absolutely beautiful, enjoyed on our balcony at white crest. So so happy!
Lovely service great food. We arrived just as the line was forming.
